Hello Xbox-scene community!

I'm totally new to the Xbox world, since I never owned an original Xbox and I'm juste starting with the Xbox 360. I've put my hands on a dev and/or debut Xbox 360, one of the first given to the press in Europe in automn 2005. For the moment, I don't own a genuine game so I never tried anything with the DVD reader. There's an harddrive, but larger than the standard 20 Gb one. One this drive, there are a few games. I'm not at home so I don't have my Dashboard and kernel revision with me, I'll give it to you later.

Is the dev/debug Xbox 360 a great think... or a useless box impossible to run any originals or backups? I've ordered the connectivity kit to flash my Hitachi drive and to see what's on the hard drive. Can I flash my drive like anyone? I think yes... but will I be able to run originals/backups as everyone? I don't know yet. A question : I tried to connect to Xbox live... without success (I can connect, but not register). Is there something I don't know? Can't I update my devel Xbox?

I don't find any threads speaking about running backups on HDD on this forum, is it impossible yet? So how my present games run from the harddrive?

My Xbox 360 is white, maybe it's not a debug one so... but it was given by MS and I have a larger harddrive with games on it... so. Still reading

That's the kind of answer I like... really nice.

I told that I was a Xbox n00b, I have everything to learn... I thought this forum was the right place. I'm not here to show myself like a hero and say "look, I have a devel"! I'm here to learn more about the Xbox 360 (normal and debug) and to find how to play something on mine. If I can help, I would be pleased to do so.

I learned somewhere that we musn't connect on Xbox Live with this console... maybe it's too late. But you know, I was not the 1rst one to use this console, so I was probably not the 1st one to connect. In my case, I managed to have a working connection, but a message telling "no inscription for the moment" of something like this. What does the Xbox live connection do? Automatic Flash?

first you will somehow have to proove that you have a dev kit.  show a picture of the hdd space or something.  second, the games on the hdd that you refer to, are they 360 games or just xbl arcade games?

You cannot run retail games on your 360 dev/debug unit.The only games you can run are 360 debug games,you can run them off the hdd or on a disc.And do not flash your drive,you will ruin your 360 dev/debug unit.Your 360 dev can already run unsigned code for the matter.But you cannot play retail games on it at all,its not made to do that use.Also what color is your 360 dev/debug unit.Is it white or black,I bet you have a debug unit with a 60gb hdd.And if its white than you should say Demo Kit on the back of the console.Also never connect your debug unit to a active internet connection,MS can track you down.

Thanks for you answers. The Xbox were already connected to the Internet, by at least one person before me... and by me (I own it since almost 1 year now). I'm not afraid about Microsoft tracking... since Microsoft gave/lent it to me. Of course, they would not appreciate I'm trying to hack it! I just love hardware and I want to know what are the differences with mine and any standard Xbox 360.

Today I received a "normal" Xbox 360, I'll be able to look for myself.
