Hey...
I own a K8N Diamond, it uses Nforce 4.
I've been trying now for days, think its the 4th now, to flash my MS25 Samsung drive with the 4.2 Xtreme Firmware.
Ive been using the MTKFLASHNF4, and i get the msg "Port: 9e0, Master/Slave: a0" and it stops there have to restart, also tried MTKFLASH but get the "no drive"  msg (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What I've been doing is disconnecting all my HDs and Dvds, so the only thing left is a USB PEN which i use as a boot disc and the Xbox360 dvd which i have disconnected from sata until restart, also tried having it connected at reboot...

I tested the "uninstall Nvidia Nforce 4 drives" method and used the windows xp generic drivers which did nothing to improve my situation.

And yes, btw i did manage to take a Backup, Orig.bin (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) but i dont know how and it took me 2 days, so I've concluded it is not impossible (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I use a Xtreme connectivity kit, for power, so i dont power up the xbox 360, but ive tried that method too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I am yet to test the Slax, but I've no idea what it is, if anyone got a idea how to solve this please post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thx beforehand !
/DM

It`s gonna work just keep trying. I know cause I have the excact same mobo.

I assume you are using the mtkflash edited for nforce4, so im not gonna ask you about it.
When you boot to dos, what does it say? Windows2000 or windows98? Cause the 2000 version is a nogo for me. Tried formatting a disk the "normal" way with windows - it says 2000, but when I use xtreme boot maker it says 98.

Try making the boot-pen with xtreme boot maker and i`ll bet it will work.

Edit: The slax cd is for hitachi drives only.

Versions greater than 4.0 uses a securitysystem that blocks further firmwareupgrades. The only way to unlock the driver is to burn a 0800 DVD+R DL. In the firmware package there is a file called 0800. Burn it with clonecd as image.

Startup your xbox 360 and put the dvd in for 10 sec. Then reject the driver and take the cd. Start up your computer with bootable media. MTKFLASHNF4 I suppose. Then the firmware is open to be upgraded.

Step by step:

1. Turn on your dvd drive. (Xbox 360). This should be connected to the PC. "PC SHOULD BE TURNED OFF AT THIS STATE"
2. Put your 0800 dvd into the drive and wait 10 sec then reject the dvd.
3. Turn on your computer as normal.
4. Now you should be able to upgrade your firmware.

(If this don't work. Do this is 1 -> 3 -> 2 -> 4)

I've got pretty much the same setup. ASUS mobo with Nforce4 chipset, Samsung MS25. I am getting no drive detected with Xtreme bootmaker 3.6 using Xtreme 4.2a and choosing the nforce4 Mktflash My bios sees the drive. I have installed it in Sata 1. followed CreV- 's 4 steps, still no good.

Please PM me if you find a solution. I will be going out of town for a couple of days and won't have time to look through the forums.

Well, I got mine flashed using a VIA6421L . I had bought this card to use in a second PC, but had given up on using this card and was trying my mobo Nforce chipset on my Home Theater PC. I had problem getting the Via card configured in the 2nd PC so I installed in my HTPC.

At least the NForce would see it in Bios. The VIA would hang when booting, then timeout and tell me that it can't initiate the device and  to hit G when ready to proceed.

But after reading another post I tried a couple of things. First, someone suggested to use the little (shorter) cable from the XBOX. I have a connectivity kit to provide power so didn't really need the XBOX. The connectivity kit has a power switch on it. I used Xtreme bootmaker 3.6 and the built in VIA 6421 MKTFlash.

I connected the short cable from my VIA card to the drive, left the power switch off on the connectivity kit.. I booted up my pc from the USB drive, and when (and only when) the VIA card told me to hit "G" I powered up the drive. If I tried too early or after hitting G, it would freeze

I then hit G and it went to the dos prompt, where I was able to run samread and samhack (following Textbooks excellent tutorial of course)

This may not help with the NForce4, but it may give you some ideas to try.

I installed Xtreme 4.2a on a MS25. I ran the updates from LIVE with no issues so far. I am currently downloading demos. The only thing to test, is if backups play. I will continue when I return from my trip...It's late.

I tried the Enable 0800 DvD method, it did not help, sigh... Thx anyways m8.
I also checked, it is Win 98 startup.

Anyways i get same error. No idea what to do.

I dont understand this step a 100% tho:

2. Put your 0800 dvd into the drive and wait 10 sec then reject the dvd.
I guess u mean Eject, and not reject?

And you said versions 4.0+ will need this DVD method, but is it only if i have Original Xbox360 firmware version 4.0+ or want the Xtreme version 4.0+

Atm i got the Firmware that came with my box, have not upgraded it or anything, nor updated on Live.

thx again to all for the help and interest.

the xtreme4.0 and up firmware has firmguard on it so once flash you will need the enable0800 dvd to disable firmguard and reflash with anything else.
