Can I Use An Extra 360 Dvd Drive To Backup
« on: October 03, 2006, 09:33:00 AM »

Hi,
I was just wondering - is it possible to purchase an xbox 360 dvd drive (off ebay) and install it in my computer permanently?  In this way, I could backup my games on my pc without having to connect the 360 to it everytime - then just place the disc in the xbox and play?

Just wondering if this is even possible or if I am just missing something.

Yep defenatly the best solution, you can get those drive off ebay for 40-50 $ and some of them comes already flashed with the kreon's FW.  No more tearing 360 apart !

Pardon my ignorance here, as I haven't kept up on 360 modding much.

There is not yet a way to create backups that will play on a 360 that hasn't been flashed, is there? Also, are there any external drives with similar firmware available? (I use a notebook PC)

No, you can't play burned 360 games on an unmodded 360.

I dont think there are any external but why not just buy a usb enclosure to put it in.  Fairly cheap and simple.

Sorry, I am new to the Xbox360 hacking scene - What is this all about? With an Xbox360 drive in your PC? What does it do?

Ebay has a Samsung pre-flashed with the Kreon kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/...1QQcmdZViewItem

Other than that, a samsung drive will cost about $100 off ebay, and the power adapter will cost another $10. I'd definately recommend the pre-flashed kreon, since it will do the same thing.

Here are some places where you can buy a Samsung SH-D162C drive. You could probably get one 30-40 bucks shipped.

Sorry for the Noobness of this question, but if you purchased an extra drive and modified it -- this would be useful only for doing backups from your PC right?

I'm thinking about purchasing an Xbox 360 and am trying to figure out if I need to purchase an older build or whether one of the newer builds (resin and all) would work. Even if you bought a drive that was pre-flashed (or flashable), it still wouldn't have the right key for the Xbox 360 right??
