Hex Editing Game Saves
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:45:00 PM »

Ok, i've attemped to do this with some gamesaves (enchanted arms mainly) anyway, I can search through hex edit and using 4byte and 8byte big-endian coding I can find the figures I want to modify

Example

My person has 54215 TB's(money) I find that value but encoded in the game save, I then replace that value with 99999, I attempt to start game and corrupt save....

anyone figure out how to edit the game saves on a 360 yet? are they signed some how?

All files on the Xbox 360 are secured against tampering with a series of cryptographic signatures.  There is no way at present to get around this, as we do not have the certificates / signing keys necessary to recalculate the proper signatures for Xbox 360 files protected this way.

Well thanks anyway, I thought it was only the executable files that were signed, wasn't sure if the game saves where signed with the same signature. I guess will never see downloadable saves for a game for a while huh?

U mean like the ones available from http://www.360gamesaves.com/? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Transferring already-signed legitimate saves is less challenging that hexing saves.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Incorrect statement.  Saved games are signed, but the 360 suffers from the same flaw in security that the original did.  Don't believe files can be edited?  Meet me in a game of Chromehounds and see a machine gun that can take out a base with one bullet.  I explained editing files that wern't saved games a LONG time ago with Ghost Recon, and GRIT - the process is basically the same here.

Hints as to where to look?  Again, it's not a game-save, and I don't believe you'd have the same ease trying to do this without a hdd.

Keep looking, you'll figure it out:P

what about changing values in the RAM via trainers? I have been looking for information about that but with not much success. Maybe someone can shed some light on this?

i'd assume some big obstacle is there since there are no trainers for the 360.

I think they probably learned their lesson after the Mechassault save game exploit.  Unfortunately that makes things more difficult for everyone. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Incorrect Statement.

Please, Anger, tell me WHAT is incorrect?

I respect the work you do for the community, but seriously, before the profile bypass became public, I'm sure many would have said the same thing to anyone claiming to be able to run a profile-locked save.

Just because I didn't give detailed instructions doesn't mean it can't happen.  Come find me in BF2:MC, and see a sniper with an anti-tank rocket, and supply bags.  See me in CH with a inverse with 10 double cannons, with a speed of 400.  There's other games I've done similar things with, but in all fairness, there are a good many games this kind of editing isn't possible in.  For the most part, however, 50% of the games I've tried, this will work in.

So why not make it public?

Because I choose not to use it on LIVE unless it's playing with friends who know what's going on.  I will not use files like this against other people for the sole reason I wouldn't want my fun jacked.  I remember when I went public with the methods for recon and grit, and people started using it everywhere.  So before I reveal the full deal, I'll be happy to point people in the right directions for now.

The topic was about modifying saves, not unsigned files on the game disc.

We all know that it is possible to modify unsigned files on the disc, and then play with them with modified DVD-ROM firmware.  Though, I think it's kinda expensive to go through bunches of burnable DL discs just to cheat.

^ There, it's public.

Enchanted arms has the same problem as lost planet does follow these easy steps and it will work.

Hook up you 360 hdd to your computer and copy all the saved content from cache and saved games. do not save any game downloads you got from xbox live.

Now edit what you want in the game saves but make sure you knwo what you are doing.

Hook the hdd back up to the 360 and format it, make sure you are not connected to xbox live while doing this. actually unplug the ethernet cord.

DO NOT TRY EVEN PLAY ANY GAME RIGHT NOW. SHUT OFF THE CONSOLE NOW!!!

Hook the 360 back up to your computer and transfer the files back to the hdd. DO nothing else but this and I cant stress that enough. Once the files are back on just leave them alone for now. disconnect the hdd from your pc and put it back on your 360 and well that shoudl be it.

I dont know why but theere are some games that get corrupted once you hood the 360 hdd to your pc and you just follow these steps to fix it. If your enchanted arms dows not work still then you did somethign wrong or put back soentign you were not suppost to. So try again. Thats all.

By the way anyone know a good site to learn how to hex edit game files? Not save files but the actual game.
