How Do You Put The Ts Dvd Drive Into Mode B
« on: August 18, 2006, 04:20:00 PM »

Hi Guys

I have been trying unsuccessfully to flash my Toshiba-Samsung DVD drive using the Xecuter connectivity kit and my pc.  I have nforce 4 chipset with onboard SATA - tried modified mtkflash and hexedited it but no joy.  Drive is always detected on DOS bootup but when trying to run "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" I get "Port:170, Master/Slave: a0", after hitting escape I get "status=00, should be 70".  Recently bought a pci sata card which was posted on another forum as working but it didn't work properly in my pc.

I assume I need to get my drive in modeb so that the mtkflash program will detect it and start flashing.  How do you do this with the Xecuter connectivity kit or does it only work on the HItachi drives?  If so how do you get a Toshiba-Samsung drive into modeb?  And can anyone suggest a working pci sata card I can try?

Thanks in advance

Oh ok then.  So there is no mode you need to get the Samsung drive in, you just have to power it up and that's it?

Still waiting on a suggestion for a working pci sata card.  Unfortunately I've already tried this card here but it keeps locking up during boot when the dvd drive is attached, if you wait for DOS to boot then connect the DVD drive it detects no drives  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

I hope someone will try and come up with a more sturdy version of MTKflash soon!

What type of chip is inside the pci card?

There should be a big chip that says Silicon Image or VIA.....

What chip is in there.  If it says SiL or Silicon Image, it won't work.

There is also a modified version of mtkflash specifically for nforce chipsets.  Do some searching, there is a completely different version of mtkflash you will need.
