hi there.i having the same kidda probs as you dbeanerz.
i will try to explain as i have 2 computers and getting a different prob too.

i too am trying to use the Toshiba-Samsung_360_Auto_Flasher_v1.1

the samsung drive i have has the firmware ms25 writen the the label.
on my 64bit pc i have 8 sata onboard conections 4 are sil3114 and 4 are nvidia.
because these have been said to not work with the samsung i went and bought a pci card which has the VIA 6421L chipset.

when i boot with this card it does a search and says something like "hardware initiate failed" on boot and i have to press "g".once i have done this it will then boot the floppy and give me the options of what card i have and what i want to do.here i press button "A" and it then  goes to a page asking if i want to discont other drives etc so i press any key to contiune and get the same as you"port 170. master/slave b0" or atleast i think its that but when i press "esc" i get
status=51,should be 70

when i do the same on my other pc which is a standard athlon 2000+ with no onboard sata's and use the VIA 6421L card
i get the same "hardware initiate failed" on boot but this time when i press button "A" when promted and any key i now get something  like:-

1 : IDE master...
2 : IDE slave ....
or something on them lines but still no sata
what can i do as i have read somewhere just to press 1 and it should do it or do i have to see sata in here first.any help will be great.
many thanks

What revision is the FW on the drive.  You can find this on the sticker on top of the drive.

MS28 FW will not be able to work.

ok i had the same issue u must hexedit mtkflash i went and got the same pci card,and frankly the autoflasher never worked for me , so i kind of took the auto flasher method and made my on method,hex edit mtkflash put that on the usb stick,and the hacked firmware on the stick disable all your drives unplug them then go into bios and disable all ide save and exit then go into settings and boot from usb stick dont' turn on your 360 until u get to this screen where you choose where to boot from then back up your original first the cmd to type is "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" without quotations now restart and go back in and enable drives and  go back in and save original firmware a few places extract the key with kdx and then patch it with kdx to xtreme firmware now save the patched firmware to the stick as well now restart the system and disable all ide again and save then shut off power on and boot to stick remember not to power on 360 till u get to the screen where u choose to boot from now choose to boot from stick and type cmd "mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin " or " mtkflash w /m /sata/ xtreme.bin" without quotes u should see it load from 0% to 100% in 3 or 4 different banks and say done. then power off pc,now when u power on 360 and what u type in cmd is very crucial and make sure u hex edit properly or it won't flash but i tried the auto flasher didn't work for me but that method worked after weeks of different methods now i'm flashed and on top of the world i hope this helps u out oh and make sure u disable and unplug all ide b4 trying to flash you'll know it worked cause you will see it load the bios when it does that 0% to 100% on banks 0,1,2,3 it will do this when u extract the original and flash the xtreme and when u extract the original you'll find it on the usb stick if u didn't know where it was saved i really hope you have the same luck i did

Have you tried hotswapping? Boot up all the way to dos with just MTKflash. It works really good if you have a SATA HDD. Have the SATA HDD connected. When you get to the A: or C: (if you're using a floppy or flash) type mtkflash r backup.bin, but don't hit enter yet. Unplug the SATA cable from your HDD and prepare it for the switch to the 360, but don't plug it in yet. This is where your timing is important. Turn on your 360 and insert the cable quickly. It works really well if you have it partially inserted before you turn it on. Insert the plug and quickly hit enter. mtkflash should recognize the drive and get to work.
