Change 360 Key And Use Your Own
« on: July 10, 2006, 07:51:00 AM »

I'm wondering if it was possible to swap out the 2048 bit key held within the 360 to one that you have created.

I realize you cannot run unsigned code on the 360.

Is it possible to replace the whole signature within the 360 itself - so that it looks for a different signature.  In other words, if you change the 360 key to accept your own custom signed files would it boot?

Is it possible (please keep technical) to change the key in the 360 to your own key?

You can then sign your own files and use the the 360 with your own key.

The 360 would boot only signed games that have been signed by you.

Let's please try to keep very technical (exactly why or why not this will/won't work).  Please no....this just won't work without a true explanation down to hex values if necessary.

Has it been completely confirmed that the per-box key is kept in the cpu?

The per-box key is only the one that matches the box to the DVD drive.  The 2048 bit key is always the same, and only the public part of that key is kept on the machine itself....deep in the CPU.

It is kind of special how MS has developed some nice security here. I mean we have hackers on both sides, at MS and the outside world, but the outside hackers always win. It is sorta cool that for the first time, a company is actually thwarting the efforts of hackers. Know if only MS could make the internet more secure.
