Major Help Needed W/ The Orig.bin
« on: July 06, 2006, 01:43:00 AM »

Hey guys,

We need some help really bad. My friend and I have been trying to mod his 360 for at least 6hrs now, we ran into a few problems but got thru them well enough, but now we are stuck on what seems to be a simple step. We can't extract the orig.bin. We're using a usb thumb drive and we get to the part after we select sec master vs sec slave, we hit 1 + enter and we get the port and a0 and then it just stays like that. we tried different variations of the commands (/sata orig.bin, /m orig.bin), we've tried turning the 360 on @ the last second. He has a 360 w/ a samsung drive. we've disconnected all ide/sata devices, the only things the pc recognizes now are the usb thumb drive and the 360 drive. does anyone have any idea what we might be doing wrong? we're using the mtkflash nf4 version since that is the mobo he has. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you hex-edited your mtkflash file for your SATA chipset?

Which drive do you have?  Toshiba or Hitachi?

According to the post he has a Samsung drive and an NForce4 motherboard.

You may need different port settings for your board.  You should post it Grim's hexediting MTKFlash thread with your info from SCSI in msinfo32.exe.  If nothing is listed in SCSI then paste the IDE readout.

The other advice I can offer is try booting froma  floppy if you can it has made a difference for some people.

Also try disabling all IDE devices in the bios and make sure RAID is turned off for the SATA also in the bios.

And of course thanks for posting an informative technical question, where you have obviously done your homework.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the info. Yesterday morning we got a floppy connected to the pc and we were able to finally extract the original firmware. We thought the issue returned when we tried to flash the 360 w/ the new firmware, but it worked the 2nd time. We didn't get to test it till around 4am cause my friend's pc was going crazy (not loading w/ certain ram, not reading ide devices, not loading bios, etc), but we finally got everything work and all is good. once again, thanks for all the info/help.

BTW, did anyone else start having PC issues after connecting the 360 dvd-rom to the pc?? I'm just wondering if it was just my friend's weird pc?
