I don't think it will flash the firmware or that it contains a backup firmware. It is more likely they will try to build some checks inside a kernel update.

that would be my guess, they might tack some juicy BC emulator update that only runs on the new kernel to get more people to upgrade

Hey guys I never said they will flash the firmware over xbox live,I said that MS has created a way to prevent this type of hack on the 360,MS will most likey ban you from xbox live at the most, but there will be an update thru xbox live once the firmware is wide spread.

Again I doubt they will be flashing any drives. If you're afraid of your kernel being updated then just unplug your xbox from the internet (although they could force the update in games too). Xbox live is MS's little baby and you can be sure they will take strict measures once they can detect the firmware hack. Especially when it allows backups on live.

hum, but you would think MS would want people to pay for xbox live? this time for me no credit card just pre paid 1 month cards. If they update the firmware then a cat and mouse game starts and they lose money. what logically would MS do considering their number 1 priorty? is there a way the could actaully stop us from flashing our drives. i am sure there will be some 360's out that you cant flash.

hum, but not impossible MS can make. make difficult MS can. bootROM have backup sector that safe from erase flashing, incase moron turn off board while flashing. logically that is how MS do. bootible ROM is MS their number 1 priorty. be good MS customer, time for credit card pre paid live. eh?

The best thing to do is stay off live. If they have updates on the game someone can easily remove them when they rip it...

MS will do whatever it takes to keep Live hack free. I also doubt they care if they loose money on hardware... they will make it up with licensing fees. As you buy more 360's software companies see MS has a larger share of the market and will develop more games for the platform.

Ummm... but they won't sell proportionally high copies of games, and MS gets a lot it's license $$ from actual units sold....

Wouldn't it work like game companies will see high numbers of consoles sold, yet low numbers of games per console and be scared away?
