| I did get a little further, when I put my PC on the 192.168.1.4 range I can get into the xbox through the switch, but when I put my PC on the obtain IP automatically I get kicked off xbox? Anyone help me? |
Sounds like Ip addresses not set properly. When you have obtain ip address automatically on, what IP address and subnet is your pc?
I don't know how much you know about networks, so if i sounds patronising i apologise.
For 2 machines to communicate with each other, they have to have the same subnet mask, which means their IP addresses will be similar. If your pc is 192.168.1.4, then your xbox has to be 192.168.X, X being any number between 1 and 255 except 4 because that is your pc.
Now if your pc is set to obtain an ip address automatically, and your xbox is 192.168.1.X, and you can't connect to your xbox, this is probably because your pc is not 192.168.1.X it's 144.132.254.201 or something, point is it's not anything like the xbox IP address.
If you can't change the address on your pc (because you lose internet) then change the address on the xbox. I would suggest you try DHCP (optain ip address automatically) That way your xbox should pick up an ip address from your modem, and autoconfigure itself. If that doesnt work, then set an ip address similar to your pc's
type 'ipconfig' in command prompt to find out your pc's ipaddress, then copy the first 3 sets of numbers to the xbox and pick a different number for the 4th, and copy the subnet mask completely
