Since the technical info is out, and everyone can see it including MS, I suspect a new LIVE update will seal this hole. Either that or new games will update your firmware without even telling you.

I doubt that, especially if someone turned their xbox off while this unknowing firmware upgrade is occuring. Besides, I remember there was some kind of privacy issue with companies flashing new software onto a persons hardware without the user knowing it.

im pretty sure ms couldnt update your system without you knowing. either legal reasons or technical.

firstly, they cant do it because of the simple fact of systems being bricked while updating. im dont think it says in the xbox live licence argeement that your 360 will be updated automaticly without your knowledge. you own the hardware not ms.

secondly dont think you can flash the os or the firmware while using the dashboard or playing a game.

and what type of patch would you suggest microsft create? every question i can think of that the 360 can ask the drive with the current hardware setup can be faked.

actually i wud love them to update my 360 and brick it. wudnt mind sueing ms.

yea that's what i'm thinking also.  But do they really have to ask you do you want to update or ot?  can't they force it.  Like while you're on live it's autodownloading and installing.  Or can't they put it into a new game and when you run it on that hacked firmware it kills your drive...

if they can block this, all they have to do is use the PSP model.  Require an update to play the new games (with the update on the game disc)

well... if they needed a new update to play new games, dont you think there will be a patched copy of the game that will be released on the internet......
so really, wouldnt they be limiting their market, i mean if i wanna play on xbox 1 live, i buy the game, but they would be stopping this .... which would mean less money from xb live, game sales, etc etc

if u see where im coming from

there wouldnt be a patch because the xex of the game is signed

Would this work with BC xbox games too?

Be nice if it did, save me having to either dig out my originals or my xbox (for the select few titles on the BC list) smile.gif

Anyways this hack is remarkable in its simplicity but I believe we are far from running homebrewes on the 360! There's still all the data execution prevention code in the system to be bypassed... and from what I've read it is not a small task. So guys don't keep your hopes too high here we will some time we say anykind of homebrew on the system!

Other then that I do hope that the patch won't get released before PS3's arrival because we might very well see a second Dreamcast episode (well perhaps not after all MS is laoded with cash)...

im pretty sure ms couldnt update your system without you knowing. either legal reasons or technical.

Well, the old XBox automatically updated your dashboard without asking any time you tried to run a DVD that had a demo of an XBox game on it.  Like the original Star Wars trilogy special features disc.  It updated your dashboard to the latest version without asking so you could play the demo online.  I had to reload my dashboard a few times because I didn't know about that and put in DVDs with demo games on them without thinking about it.

I don't think applying updates without asking would be a legal issue, especially if it is designed to stop illegal activities.

But I can't wait for an XBox 360 version of XBMC.  It would be so nice to unlock the full potential of the machine.  That's the reason I chipped my XBox in the first place.  XBMC rocks!

What possible media centre functions could the 360 offer that the xbox doesn't already ?

Just to name a few things: The ability to decode and display HD material (including H.264 decoding). Better DVD upsampling. Better visualizations while listening to music. etc etc.

From what you mentioned there, I think only the HD functions would be of any use to the average end user.

Exactly, so for now my modified original xbox's are all that I need...

still would be nice to play with the full potential of this new hardware though...

You really should read up before you throw out the insults.

If you bothered to read our posts properly, you would have realised that we were speaking hypothetically about homebrew and were not referring to the hacked firmware in any way.
