Whats MSs Reaction To Already Being Hacked?
« on: March 19, 2006, 03:36:00 PM »

Im, not sure but I believe the XBOX 360 was hacked before the XBOX 1 was? But to be fair I believe allot more people are working towards the 360 being hacked then at first with the xbox 1. So im just curious if the MS team has realesed a statement? Also everyone whining about the team not realesing the hack needs to stfu. Besides 95% percent ofyou couldnt even use it the way it is, becuase you have to desolder the chip, re program it, get the KEY off the origanal bios, etc.... .. anyway anyone hear from MS? good work guys, and I also understand why you did'nt realese it, doing so might accualy turn the 360 into the dreamcast.

how yea and one more thing. Obivously I don't want you to tell MS how to fix the problem (by telling me would be telling them bassically, they read these fourms) but how easy is it for them to stop this hack? and keep it stopped.

to you're last statement... no one needs to tell them how to fix it, they're just going to most likely either a) not do anything because really how many people can do this and / or cool.gif they will just put new / updated firmware with even more security in the next xbox dvd drives that come out, I myself (I belive) have a hitachi drive I can't remember, but even still, I'm buying games right now because I play on Live but whatever, im sure someone else will figure out an easier way to do this within 6-12 months.

Also, I completely understand why they will NOT release the firmware and I support their reasonings.

Oh and even if people got ahold of this and started pirating like crazy, the 360 would not turn into what the Dreamcast did because M$ has wayyyyyy too much money in their pockets to keep it going anyways biggrin.gif

I guarantee they're already working on circumventing it.  My guess is you will see an update when you sign into Live within 3 weeks.  Of course they won't detail what it is, but you'll know what it is.

For existing 360's if they can't update boxes via live it would seem they could add security patch to the game disks themselves on all future games, ala the PSP model:

As dumb as this sounds, this might actually be good for MS.  This gets the 360 even more attention and gives the average consumer one more reason to buy one with the anticipation that modding will be available.  MS would be better off to act like their fighting it but actually harnessing it to allow homebrew and increase fan base.  MS jus has to worry about keepin live modded free becuase thats the only thing keeping people from pirating every game.

Come on... What would be their interests in selling more consoles (losing 125$ or so on each) if no one buys game?!?

Market Saturation and Market Share.

MS committed to the 360.. and has already committed themselves to the next gen after. MS is used to thorwing money at a problem, year after year after year until they get the desirec end result.

Even when MS loses.. they win. (ex. Netscape Lawsuit)

It's not just about games, it's about having your living room.. every room.. in their pocket. creating a system of supply and demand that only they will really be able to control.

It's not about world domination despite what some whackos would say. It's simple business. MS can afford to play the big game, and make big wagers like few other corps on the planet.

Sony.. despite it's size, has had 3 losing quaters in a row. MS has had similar loses at times.. but the Pockets of MS are deeper.

I'm not suggesting MS want piracy, or wants tyo lose any $ on the 360. Just that they can afford to play any hand dealt to them.

It goes back to that classic argument, but piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast, Sega's marketing did, and this definitely wouldn't kill the 360.

If this was sure failure for the 360, why wouldn't Sony release a firmware patch and any other mod their guys can come up with? That would be good strategy to sabatoge M$.

I will bet you the ps3 will be hacked sooner than that. You are assuming there won't be a way to run copies on other types of media.

But even if not, at least it will have region free out of the box, and supposedly linux support which should please casual hackers.

Because PS3 already has Linux, I'm pretty sure PS3 won't be hacked. Mostly hackers hack video game systems because they want Linux on every frigging electric device in their house tongue.gif

the dvd firmware hack will be utterly useless after  MS release the update once they put encrypted firmware on the drive and put the hash check for the cpu to ask  for the key in the firmware which cant be read because  firmware bios is encrypted its game over for good for the firmware hack...

lol. well i'm glad you figured that out. i'm sure xecter will abort their development thanks to you.

seriously: they cant secure the firmware more without a hardware revision. all they can do now is try to detect it and ban you from live or something
