Check the Technical DVD-ROM / DVD-Media Forum... there's already progress in a "similar" direction... (i.e. modifying the firmware on the DVD drive)

It wouldn't matter anyways, you can already read Xbox 360 games in your PC with wxRipper (note: this involves hot swapping DVDs).
