This would completely suck and would very likely kill the Xbox 360 business before it even gets off the ground. All this is is a piracy enabler. There is no justifiable reason to release something like it and no-one who is really interested in hacking to make the box more useful by running homebrew and other non-sanctioned software should support it. It might be a cool technical exercise, but its utility for anything other than piracy (and don't give the "backups of my pricey games" BS) is nil.

What's BS about it?

Currently: 15 games at $59.99 per game = $899.85 ($974.09 after tax).

Pardon me if I'd prefer to spend $15 on blank DVDs to play my games from, in order to prevent the loss of nearly $1,000 worth of game software.

Not everyone is a software pirate...

I've got a strange feeling that we live in the same country hjw, and i cant agree with you more. And to you Math1, I personally think you're wrong. I admit I've downloaded many games to my old XBOX (God bless its soul tongue.gif ), but when i've tried a game i like, I buy it. That is of two reasons; 1. Play on live, 2. Support the people behind the game.

Here in my country, dvds has never sold better. Still, more and more people download dvds of the internet. Some people are whining about a few downloaders, but I beleve they buy more dvds that average joe anyway.

I dont say piracy ain't a crime, but some sides aint that bad either. A firmware hack on the 360 would be great for the scene to try some experiments, and still, people would buy games they really wanted.

Like yourself, I bought Xbox games to play on live, but with this hack, unless MS realeased a patch to check the firmware, you would be able to play the backups on live.

im sure theyve been devising a series of hash checks for th enext kernel update since TS made the xbox1 hack (since its been common knowledge he intended to apply the hack to 360)

yeah according to the specialist ms would be capable of inserting some checksum routines in live updates. But the hardware design creates a situation in where the firmware can be manipulated in such ways to provide the right hash

once the firmware has been comprimised, it would no longer be a trustworth source of information though. theoretically couldn't the firmware hack be setup to report back whatever is desired for its checksum? i would imagine with the proper implementation this would be difficult for MS to detect.

Another phrase from TS today:
"Well, as said before, it was a team of people that did the hack. It were some great minds at work that solved this puzzle and I'm not talking about myself, lol, since it were others that did the most important findings in my opinion. So indeed, respect to the ones who deserve it and Robinsod is one of them  Hopefully the 'rest' of the team wants to step forward too, since I think they deserve some kudo's too, for all the good work they did  But then, it really wasn't just the team that did it"

And from other posts over at xbh net, it seems that they have managed to boot backups with a firmware hack, so there you go, now all we need is to see it tongue.gif

personally, I don't give two shits about it being piracy or not.. the fact of the matter is the game devlopers and testers get paid well in advance before the god damn games or titles ever hit the shelves..

it's a proven fact that nearly all the major devloping companies are getting government funding to produce their wares.

Video Game Developers Funded by Government

I highly condone the activity to hack the 360 to play backups or unsigned code. The developers got their nice fat paychecks way in advance and aren't going hungry even if 50% of 360 owners started copying games instead of buying them..

this is the same concept with recording artists and actors/actresses... these people get shit loads of cash to
roll out a entertainment product.. I've yet to see any of these overpaid entertainment types work a middle class person's job, busting their ass to feed their family and keep a roof over their heads..

as for the people that told me in another thread that I don't realize the time and effort put into writting game software and the justified costs.. you guys can go fuck yourselves.... I know people in the industry and they've told me how the money comes in....

-NEUTRINO- your an ass who knows very little.

There are alot of low paid jobs in the games industry.
Define well paid and also define a middle class person's job.

I know there are high paid jobs out there but to get then you need to start at the bottom and work your way up.

At the bottom or working for a service company including test vendors and companies like that do not actually pay very well. I know this because I was out of work last year and looking for jobs in the IT industry and most paid very low wages I would have been unable to live on them.

O and another thing due to rising costs and reducation in sales have seen a large number is studios  merge or close in the last few of years what does this tell you?

I could go on your I will say again your an ass

neutrino... its pretty obvious that every famous 'celebrity' is enourmously overpaid.. NO ONE in this world deserves millions of dollars... n-o-b-o-d-y.... just the other day i saw an interview that the olsen twins did and they said "we've earned all our money by working hard, we've worked hard and deserve it" and i was like OH-MY-GOD..... how can 2 people ''''''''''''''''DESERVE''''''''''' millions upon millions of dollars!??!?! when there are people out there working 50 times more/harder and only get a measly 100  bucks a month?? do they NOT deserve it? paris hilton made similar comments...... seriously..... stupid leeches of the world...

anyway back to the piracy topic... i dont agree that only because they get a lot of money you should support piracy....  i only support piracy when it comes to making backups and overpriced games that are worth 1/3 of their retail price (i.e ports like nba 2k6, and all of ea games released so far, except for fight night 3)...... some games are complete rip-offs... they really are... and no matter what anyone says,  they do not deserve the money... other games such as kameo, perfect dark zero, pgr3, graw, elder scrolls (looks great, hopefully it turns out as good as its hyped up to be) are games that DO deserve full price and the makers deserve to be rewarded..... i for one own all those games except elder scrolls obivousy and would buy any of them again.... i used to have nba live 06.. and i honestly felt robbed.. i felt like ea had stolen money from me.... and its those type of games (that give you that 'i was robbed' feeling) that deserve to be pirated and NOT BOUGHT by anybody... their sales should be near to zero.. so the developers realise they cant just make cheap/quick ports and expect easy money......
