"Firmware. I doubt you'll see some kind of OTHER hack soon, that lets you boot unsigned code for example. MS did a very good job on the 360 itself this time. However, they made a big mistake by forgetting about the firmware They even didn't remove the debug routines from the FW, quite amazing ... The 360 has a little bit more advanced protection in its FW than the original xbox, but still, they did some stupid things (like forgetting about the debug routines, that were very helpful to us, hehe, and most importantly: not signing the firmware). I'm betting they'll develop the MPU in the drive from scratch for their next gen consoles and sign the code in the FW"

I know its just speculaion, nothing solid etc, but its damn nice to hear a guy like him say stuff like this, makes you feel that something is just around the corner

Regardless of the smoke being blown up this forum's behind (promises of hax & such...), it should shout-out one thing to the members:

Through combining efforts (forming dev teams), we can all learn more & progress towards our goals. Obviously that is the reason for this forum, not to mention this website... So fire-up those Web Browsers & start RESEARCHING!!!

Well, thespecialist never released his hack for the original XBOX because of personal reasons, so even if he hacks the 360 firmware, it's not going to be useful to anyone else.

Finally, some useful progress. Not that the other progress wasn't important, but this is true progress towards modding Xbox 360. I'll be excited to see how it turns out, and if it's actually released to the public. Getting the Xbox 360 to run backups is a huge step, and enough in itself to keep everyone happy for a long time. Once they get this done, we'll be close enough to true Xbox 360 modding to taste it!

This route was never taken before the 360 came out, so it was never considered. You can guarantee that the next release will be protected against this.

Dvd firmware is hacked all of the time. The brothers made a proffesion out of it.

They were blindly stupid for leaving the debug info in there. Thats what happens when you rush.

Next batch of 360 will probably not have a protection against a dvd firmware hack, but im guessing future batches will, since they do take security very seriously, so if i was going to buy a 360 id do it sooner rather than later

Aslong as they dont release the hack till after the 23rd of march because thats aus release date.
