Tutorial For Extracting Pgr3 Photomode Pics
« on: February 13, 2006, 11:37:00 PM »

first off you need to modify your memory card for a usb connection, OR you need to open your harddrive.

see
http://forums.xbox-s...3
or
http://forums.xbox-s...6

for memory card modification, or
http://www.anandtech...aspx?i=2610&p=5

once thats done, you need the drivers if using the memory card..
http://www.jkutz.com...DriversV1.1.exe

then you need Xplorer360 from www.360gamesaves.com

open Xplorer, and go to Drive, Open, Harddrive or memcard.

Now you have a list of partitions (memory card only has 2 partitions)
IPB Image

Go to Partition3 (partition 2 on a memory card), then content, then the folder thats NOT a bunch of 00's, then 4D5307D1, then 00000001, you will see profile.sav, right click on it and extract it somewhere.
IPB Image

the extraction part is done, now for getting the images out....

Now that you have your profile.sav.. its time to get your images out.. the original way i figured it out was using any hex editor, the pictures are plain jpgs, stored in the sav.. so if you look for the standard jpeg header "FFD8FFE000104A464946" and go from there all the way to an ending FFD9 with lots of 00's after it, you have the entire JPG.. copy all of that and paste into a new file and save as a jpg..

but for the rest of you not so technically adept with a hex editor, i found a program to do it automatically, untill one is written just for this job..

you need a "full" version of WinHex..

simply open the .sav in winhex, go to tools, disk tools, then file recovery by type
IPB Image

set it to extensive byte level search, set it to JPEG, and set an output directory, then press OK
IPB Image

Done! it will tell you how many images it extracted, go to your output folder and enjoy..

(just a note, some images fail to work properly due to some kind of corruption, they will not show in windows preview, but will give you some of the image if opened in photoshop.. we are working on that issue.. for now take a few copys of images you want to be sure come through, just incase, it seems to be 1/10 images or so, so its not a big issue)

it wont work for me. I have more then 2 folders in the content folder. i have tried many "profile.sav" and nothing works.

i use Xvi32 as the hex editor then i search the hex string for FF D8 FF E0 00 10 4A 46 49 46 and i get no results.

the profile.sav in the 4D5307D1 folder is the pgr3 profile, if you are getting no results for that string, then you have no pictures saved in it, that is a generic jpeg header

heres how to fix the corrupted photomode pictures...

the reason they are corrupted, is because there are hash's strewn about every few images, you need to remove them.. they are in 1000 byte blocks
once extracted, open the non working pic in a hex editor, and scroll down untill you hit a big blank space of 00's, once you reach the top of the 00's, note what offset they start at, (Example 553E), now since every hash is in a 1000 byte block, scroll up to the start of that 1000 (Example 5000), now were going to start there, and select down to 6000, when at block 6000, if its still 00's, keep going, if its a block of data, you have to look at it, and see if its hash or jpeg data, the hash data is easy to spot by its repeating values throughout, (usually C000, or 8000), if you see data like this, go down to the next thousand (7000) if you still see hash data or 00's keep going, keep doing this untill you get to data that dosent look like hash data, so say 7000 is jpeg data, select from 5000 to 7000 and delete, make sure your bytes selected is an even number, in this case it would be 2000 bytes selected.. save and magically your jpeg is fixed... a better tutorial will come soon, i wrote this up in 5 minutes while sitting bored at work... and soon we should have an automated application..

thanks to th0mas and angerwound for the help.

I ordered myself a SATA PCI card... but failed to realize I needed a SATA power adapter, god damned gas prices make shipping costs insane.

Anyways, are the replays stored elsewhere on the HDD or in the profile?
