Running Gentoox With Evox
« on: September 11, 2004, 06:41:00 PM »

Ok i followed the direction for FTPing gentoox onto my xbox that already is running evox that i installed using ltools, but all that runs is the .xbe file telling me to insert the Stardust disc. I tried burning a stardust disc but my xbox is not reading it. What is the problem, I put all the files from the distro.rar folder which i extracted onto my E drive with no subdirectories and no its on my F drive because there is more room there.

Help Please!

Make sure all files are on the Root of E. Just close the drive without a CD and hope it boots or chose the HD icon on the far left.

It doesn't let me choose the hard drive icon, i can only use stardust and then when it was in my E\Apps\ folder i could run sparkle. whats the deal?

I don't think you follows shallax's tutorial right, make sure your download is not corrupt and use winrar to extract and use flashfxp to transfer.

Is there a problem with using the startdust cd thats at the gentoox website??
it wont delete or format your E or F drive  however it does ask you all you have todo is say
 no to format
no to flashing bios
basically best to say no to everything the first time its ectracting the files
then after it reboots run gentoox  from evox and it will setup and ask you what  options you want  ftp samba all that jazz
the cd even installs into F drive
it will ask you where do u want to instal E OR F
it cant get any easier.

AlSO you put the files on the root of E or F
NOT E/apps or E/Linux
JUST E/ FOLDER

I am having the same problems.  Download Gentoox and extract using winrar.  Then burn the iso to a cd-rw (also tried a cd-r) using alcohol 120%.  The Gentoox loader starts and only lets me choose stardust cd.  Stardust starts and says "failed to allocate resource 2(.......)(......) 01:00:00"  or something like that, but contiues to load (not sure if this is a problem).  Then I make all the choices to install to f drive without formating or flashing bios and it gives this error when 'testing file system' :
"an error occured halting
(error writing to install device)
The system is going down now!!"etc....

Do I need to have my hard drive unlocked to install gentoox?  I have tried the ftp install also but get the same results.  I notice the files on the ftp tut. are not the same as the ones in my distro pack I have.  Is that because I have Home v3.1 or is this a problem?

Ok I got the ftp install to work for installing it to the E drive, but I want it on the F drive.  The cd install still doesn't work.  I only tired the cd install to the F drive though.  Should I be able to do the ftp install to the F drive?  Should I be able to do the cd install to the f drive?

error writing to device

This is a very common bug!
Ive gotten this 95% of the time.

The work around would be the FTP installation.
======================

Do follow the lil steps. Where u FTP linux to does matter.
I guess you could later place linux somewhere else as long as the boot loader is edited
and the fstab is edited to mount somewhere else somhow

Not goin to wolk
