Xbox 360 Faq
« on: January 02, 2006, 06:44:00 PM »

I have decided to put together a FAQ to help with the common knowledge.

What is the difference between the Core and the Premium System?

MS released two versions of the Xbox 360. The Core System and the Premium System. The difference is what is included in the console package.

 - Core System: Xbox 360 System, Power Supply, Component Cable, USB Wired Controller.
 - Premium System: Xbox 360 System, Power Supply, Component Cable, Wireless Controller, Headset, and the 20GB Hard Disk Drive.

PD: First shipments of the Premium System included a Limited Edition Bonus DVD Remote

What is the Hard Disk Drive used for?

For Backwards Compability and to store gamesaves, demos, trailers, music etc.

Which games are Backwards Compatible?

Click HERE for a complete list of games.

Can I connect 4 Xbox 360 Wired Controllers?

The Xbox 360 only has 3 USB Ports but the Xbox 360 was designed to recognize only two wired controllers.

Can I use a HUB and use the Xbox 360 Wired Controllers?

Like stated above.

How do I use the Charge and Play Kits?

Plug them in, turn on the console and turn it back off. The Xbox 360 will recognize the controllers and stay on using just enough power just to charge the controllers.

What is the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo Disc?

Is the DEMO that was shown in the Xbox 360 Kiosks in game stores.

What is so exciting about the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo Disc?

The Demo doesn't have a media flag and it runs on the Xbox 360 (DVD5)

Can I run backups just like the Dreamcast used to?

No, just because the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo Disc doesn't have a media flag it doesn't mean that the Xbox 360 console can run backups.

Are the files in the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo signed?

The executables are, the rest of the files aren't.

What can I do with the Xbox 360 Demo Disc?

Get some themes, play some demos. illicitx made some tests to run SWF files (Flash) of the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo Disc, you can read more HERE.

Another interesting thing you can do is replace the WMV-HD files from the disc with your own and play them on the Xbox. If you are interested click HERE and HERE

Can I replace the DEMOS with other Xbox 360 game files?

No

Why not? (Referring to question above)

Because the files are signed and the Main Executable is different.

What are media flags?

The type of media allowed to play

Why does the Xbox 360 Kiosk Demo Disc doesn't have media flags?

Looks like MS was in a hurry to get the disc out that they did not fully protected the disc.

I saw a boot disc released by (x release group). Does it work?

All of those boot discs are FAKE so please don't clog the forums with these threads.

I saw a modded Xbox 360 on eBay with a 60GB HDD how did they do it?

They just simply added a USB HDD and it only allows you to play Music and Pictures from it.

What can you plug in the Xbox 360 USB ports?

Any USB device with Music or Pictures (PSP, iPOD, Digital Cameras, USB HDD, USB Key's etc)

Can I use those devices to store game saves?

Nope, since the Xbox 360 only reads Music and Pictures from USB Devices.

*****************************************************************************************

That's it for now, I will add more later, I am just tired, please add more questions and answers that need to be added, and if I posted wrong information let me know so I can fix it.

Thanks

 - Liquid

Slumberpod77's post about signed and unsigned code (page 2) for noobs would make a great addition to the faq IMO. It would answer a lot of questions and keep a few from being asked.

Warning: The above post may cause an instantaneous reality check concerning the ease at which
the Xbox360 can be hacked. All questions and post regarding file swapping between demo files
and retail game files will cease to exist.
