Is It Impossible To Just Do This...
« on: December 23, 2005, 02:10:00 AM »

I don't claim to be an expert at this. I'm just curious about a thought of pure speculation I had; If there is one or more major reasons why this concept wouldn't work I would like to know why for the sake of having a more precise understanding without being flamed.  Don't flame me if you understand an abstract concept I was unaware of, because this is a question of curiosity not a statement.

That said, is it impossible
to take all the hardware of the xb0x 36o and figure out what's happening after all codes have been verified, in the stage when the game is simply running and find out what's happening; In other words separate the play mechanic completely from the security mechanic...

and to isolate those aspects and build a machine that reads the games the exact same way except that
1) Each hardware piece is aesthetically different in its design so there's no hardware infringement
2) It plays the games without ever reading or using the security code parts
and thus
3) Never holds micro$oft's copyrighted security code or hardware, and never 'hacks' anything
4) The only thing the same is in the end it will run the same software\
5) Just kind of somehow skips the irrelevant code parts on the disk and plays the program/game parts

I know that this is impractical, but in theory is it possible? And is there any rule so ridiculous that it forbids machines that can play another brand's software?

I think he means: Is it possible to build a machine (PC) that plays copied 360 games? If no, why not?

Again, I think (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

it would take way too long, first you would have to have a multi million dollar manufacturing plant that can make intergrated circuits. and then you would have to make a processor die with three processors running at 3.2 ghz each with exactly the same imput/output calls and instructions as an xbox360 powerPC processor. and then you would have to make the graphics chip with the same input/output calls and instructions as the xbox 360's graphics chip and then you would have to make the motherboard.. ok i will stop now..

i think its just easier to wait for a modchip biggrin.gif

Wow, you  didn't honestly think hard enough about those matters more than minute didn't you?  smile.gif pop.gif  <--- Flame free made popcorns. Heh, i know whats it like to post when you really should be sleeping already.

With the model you give it is impossible. You would violite too many things in software and hardware sense. Besides the work to do that would take long enough if xbox360 would ever get completely mapped but then theres these other issues...

<--- specially this section here ( and too many others to mention ). That doesn't go for running linux but yes ofcourse there are "ridiculous" rules aka laws, patents are included in xbox360 also. Ridiculous rules helps to keep the bussiness healthy, people can have their jobs and profits are bigger without company called ie xboxscene corporation doing consoles that plays PSP2 and GC games if it would be legal in first place. wink.gif
I shouldn't have said anything cause i'm baffled now =)

exactly... biggrin.gif ...

Looks like what you are looking for is a universal system that also plays Xbox360 games.  If you could build it ...I say go for it.  But you will definitely be violating many, if not, all the laws/patents/copy protections that are in place to prevent anyone from doing so.
If you take a look at the first Xbox and when modded you have the ability to play NES,SNES,N64,SMS,Genesis,Neo Geo, Mame and any others you may have installed. That in itself is a "universal system" but it only does that because of emulation, which in many areas is illegal.  Although   emulation is what MS themselves are doing with the Xbox360,  in order to play Xbox1 games on the Xbox360.
So in theory you could have a console/system which would be able to "emulate Xbox360 games" but that won't happen anytime soon.... at least not until the next Xbox console is available..... smile.gif

....correct me if I'm wrong....

It's possible but the time and money it would take would cost more than creating your own system from scratch.

Also the only people that would have the knowlege needed to do this would be those people who built the xbox360 and they have all singed non disclosure and non competitive contracts.

All bios code would have to be completely original but able to execute xbx files and other xbox360 specific progame files.

And all of the development would have to be done without any reverse engineering or in a country without laws restricting reverse engineering.

Ran across this thread and it also seems to me as if your refering to what people like to call an emulator. Truthfully there is no reason you would need the same exact hardware specs as the 360 to run a 360 game and I would bet given some of the current generation of PC components you could make it look even better. The problem is, as many have stated, it takes forever for this type of thing to happen. I'm not an expert either and Im not totally sure why it takes so long (other then copyright laws) but I do know it's an extensive process. These types of things were wide spread during the N64 & playstation days as well as the last generation of PS2 & Xbox days. And correct me if I'm wrong even though many have said they have made these emulators and yu could even download these so called emulators they really never worked or if they did only for 2 or so specific games. When they come out with something that can efficently emulate an N64 then I will consider spending my time on this.

Well if he is talking about a leagal system them emulation is out.

As emulation usaully uses extracted code from the original system.

Also the state of emulation of systems prior to PS1 is pretty good most games run fine maybe a few quirks here and there but nothing major.

N64 can be emulated on the xbox pretty well. PS1 at about 65% meanig playble games.

I think he OP means making an equivalent spec machine like an AMD based pc vs a Intel Based pc, with a Lindows OS than stick in PC disk and Play PC Games.  Equivalent Hardware, all original code, but compatible probably more like Unix and Linix

Maybe the PS3 has enough processing power to emulate the Xbox 360?

 wink.gif

No way wink.gif And if it could, no one's coding a emulator for it, because of lack of knowledge and other things.
I'm sure that X360 emulation won't come in the next 5 years, as we still can't run any Xbox games with an emulator (Ok, Xeon runs Halo and CXBX runs Turok, any others?) efficiently, and Xbox has been on the market for 4 years smile.gif (and PS2 is a little more emulated, and it has been 5 years on the market).
