« on: August 06, 2004, 01:20:00 PM »

Hey there, have just installed Gentoox no problem onto my xbox, everything was going fine until i ran it, went through the setup procedure thats supposed to take 30 secs. Used this walkthough from you guys here.
"Using Gentoo Linux for the XBox to share drives (v0.1)"
As you could probably tell im a noob to this
When trying to initialize this line:
"Bringing up eth0 up...."
I get a Failed to bring eth0 up msg
ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
              "netmount" was not started.
ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
            "sshd" was not started

then goes to "starting local....."

and asks for localhost login and pass then Pro root #.

PLease Help what do i need to do to get this up!!!!

um eth0 is a networking service

sshd is the ssh server

netmount is the thing that gets the network up

if you have a dhcp server then just plugin in ur cable

And I assum that you are USING PRO? Pro is for ppl that are going to use their xboxs for servers or want to compile their own xfree or xorg (Takes long)

Post more info plz

You Might Wanna Go with HOME it'l be easier
just a lil slower

I guess I wont be here much more
decided to switch my xbox server to somthing else
as my xboxs hd is now full and it is pointless to switch it with the dvd
when I have a 533 256mb hp just dusting, but of course no hd, gotta buy a couple 200gb, and the xbox could Finally be the Media Center PC It was Meant To Be LOL

heres what my great xbox that hasnt need much attention during these long months did

File Server to 9 comps (Music,DVDS, Everything)
Printer server to 9 comps
Apache Web server (At One point)
mysql (At One Point)
Ftp Server
and more that I cant think of
o wait CS Server
 :D

all this was 24/7 no reboots unless I blow a fuse or just devided a month of uptime was enough

Basically sounds like your network card was not plugged in or your cable is broke.  Hook this up to DHCP and you should be all set.
