Xebian V1.0.3
« on: July 27, 2004, 01:11:00 PM »

Tried it out last night. Works great. I am a linux tard so I am happy I am as far as I am.  I tried Gentoox Home 3.0 loved it once I got focus video (1.4) working, only bad thing for the life of me I couldn't get F  and G drive to mount and be readable (directory was all curropt looking) and my usb camera would not work (no dev\sda1).  With Xebian v1.0.3 I set it up with KDE, camera support (Sony DSA-S50) thru mount, copy and unmount scripts, and all my drives are mounted and accessable c,e,f,g,x,y,z. I even set it up so my camera will copy straight to my g drive so I can view pics with linux or XBMC.  have not tried to mount the cd player but I would imagine it works also since 1.0.2 worked fine.

Just wanted to post since I noticed alot of folks had usb issues like myself.  Give it a shot it might work for you.

i tried xebian, and got it working. however you need a bit of knowledge with linux to be able to use it properly. also there are a lot of missing files in xebian, you'll notice it if you try to click on some of the menu icons.

yeah I noticed with the stock desktop the bad links on the bottom bar.  I just installed kde and kdm with the apt-get install command and now it almost runs like windows and only inatalled programs are listed. I like kde's file browser so much easier to move and access files. I know it is a bit slower, but I'll give up speed for ease of use :)

As for the drive I just nano'ed the /etc/fstab file and added the hda50 E Drive hda51 C Drive, hda52 X Drive, hda53 Y Drive, hda54 Z Drive, hda55 F Drive,and had56 G Drive. That was all the drives are mounted the /mnt/xbox/Driveletter.
i.e.  /dev/hda55 /mnt/xbox/f auto rw, 0 0

I am very new at linux myself maybe messed with it for about 3 weeks now.  Really helps to use a keyboard on the xbox or ssh from another computer.  I am mainly trying to set mine up so I can do most things with just the controller and maybe the onscreen keyboard.  I travel alot and the old xbox is a great tool to fight boredom, plus now with linux once I figure it out it should be a very handy tool.

I have learned alot from just searching the forums here to get everything working.

no, it won't touch E:.

I just copy over the two files (livefs and xbox.tgz) and run it as livecd from HD. Then create a local copy of those in xbox.tgz so I can save the settings.

Looks nice but run out of memory when trying to launch freevo.
