Is There A Way To Soft-flash Bios
« on: July 23, 2004, 10:18:00 AM »

I REALLY, really need to be able to soft flash some bios onto a system built with linux in it, to get Linux off of there and put on Evox and Homebrew Utilities, and let it play Xbox games and Emulators, etc.  Can anyone here tell me if it's possible to soft flash bios from an xbox with linux installed on it?

You can euther softmod it (which is what I belive you want), like with the mechassult hack (need m$ dash 4920), or once softmodded you can TSOP it (flash onboard bios, need to solder the write enable points though) but better yet just get a cheap mod chip, so much easier.

What I want is to flash bios onto a chip that has no way to hardware flash, in place of the linux bios that are on it now.  They don't run EvolutionX, you see.  I'm not wanting linux, I am wanting EvolutionX, you see. : )  I think it's an aladdin advance chip with no external flash capability, and it's got linux bios on it, where do we go from here to get them off and swapped out with executer2 bios?  Is this what you mean by softmodding?

download ozxflash.
this is a linux program you put on cd. it boots with cromwell and reflashes the installed chip. you should get it with a manual which you really should read and understand.
i'm not sure if your chip is supported but it's worth a try. otherwise there's always raincoat in linux which can flash nearly every chip out there.

ozxflash also uses raincoat but an old version. if it doesn't work you can replace the raincoat.conf on the disc with a newer one.

That depends on what modchip that is running ? I believe most modchip allows you to flash whatever  BIOS on it running programs like raincoat.
