Microsoft was never in a format war with Sony.

Of course they were. M$, toghether with porno industry was supporting TSSH HDDVD drive. I bet if they had won this battle they wouldnt start this digital media download and movies streaming idea.

"The highest form of high definition"??
That would get you into trouble making that claim in this country. That would mean uncompressed at 1080P, not the horribly over-compressed 1080P that looks far worse than Bluray.

Blu-Ray was outdated almost the instant it was released. There will be no Blu-Ray player for the XBox, and in a year no one will care.

When will you people learn, physical media is on the way out.

Your joking right?
CDs use an extremely primitive medium. Its widely available and popular to download your music online, but Record stores still exist. Why? Because purchasing a physical object is more appealing than purchasing data. Sure its the same product but you don't get the album artwork, or a professionally pressed cd.

and movies are a few steps behind CDs. They are huge downloads, the quality is often compromised, and its often difficult to view them on your television. Plus at this point its mainly rentals that are available. And with varying internet speeds the world just doesn't have the bandwidth to fully support it.

So ya physical media may be on its way out but its a slow process thats just begun.

Realizing it's not likely anyone of enough importance in Microsoft's team will read this, I also understand I have a better chance of THAT happening than getting a feature request to anyone via 1-800 support lines, or even email/forum-mail at xbox.com.  That said, here goes:

I've mentioned it twice on the forums here, and I'll say it again.  When MS released the hd-dvd they did so stating directly that one of the reasons the hd-dvd was NOT internally mounted was because of the uncertainty of the format war.  They wanted to be able to support/put out whatever 'won'.

Reference my orig. post: Here (which also has the orig. x-s news article link on it).

Funny thing is, awhile after posting this I ended up buying a PS3 basically just for the blu-ray playing ability.  I have rented one game for it, and bought one.  It has seen less than 100 hours of "game" play.  (plenty of movie play though).  Why is this funny?  Because 1, it could have been $100-300 bucks in MS's bank had they a blu-ray player accessory, second, if the other current news article is right, and Xbox Live gets a price increase, I'll be using my 360 for a media center (which I do now as well), and the PS3 will become the new flagship console in my house.

So if you're reading this, MS employee, manager, team leader..  Get off your haunches and get the word through your dept.  Your company is losing money in a big way, face it - the R&D is pretty much done, edit some code switch the hd-dvd drive out of the case and pop in a blu-ray, release your updated code and start selling blu-ray today.  Don't use it as a gimmick on the next-gen console, cuz newsflash - If it wasn't worthy of an accessory today, it's not gonna be wanted on the next-gen.  You can't go claiming "features blu-ray technology" after just saying "sorry, we don't feel there's a demand for blu-ray on our console system"..

even if they release one, you know what the price point will be. 199.99USD. Why would anyone pay 200 dollars for a bluray player when they can spend 100 more and get a PS3? Bad move to release a player.

Why?  Because some people don't want ANOTHER console system in their house.  Because they want simplicity and an all-in-one solution.  Because it is $100 more.  Because they don't offer a free HD service to hook up your 1.5TB external drives to STORE the friggin downloadable content and for that reason prefer discs.

If MS wants to refuse an accessory, then they should drop their unrealistic prices on HDD's for the 360, OR allow USB ones to be used (for content downloading).

True, but M$ was stupid enough to believe HD-DVD's would be successful. Blu-Ray bought rights to all the successful movie producing companies before Toshiba could. Really though, why settle for a 15GB HD-DVD when the Blu-Ray can goes as high as 50GB with their DVD? bdaybiggrin.gif (Dunce Cap, not B-Day Cap)
