On my website I have a tutorial which has worked for everyone who tried it.  The latest rev of EvoX will work with this tut.

http://www.xbox-scen.../errorcodes.php

I'm getting error 7, which apparantly means my HDD is timing out. What the hell does that mean, is it because it's right out of the box, and could this be why my HDD-preparing EvoX boot disc won't boot?

Doh! What version of evoX are you using? looks like you don't have any settings for G: drive in your evox.ini. The current version (3935?) has additional lines in it like so:

to use my tut on larger drives add
CODE
UseGDrive = Yes
to the [misc] section and
CODE
Format g:
to the [action 10] section.  Other than that nothing is any different.
I'll update the tut this weekend to reflect what changes are needed for larger drives.

the evox M7 bios doesn't support that large of a hard drive unless you modify the bios with xbtool.

get xbtool, open the evox m7_ef and add LBA48 support.  I recommend the partition 6 and not the partition 6+7.  6 gives you a large F drive, and 6+7 gives you a 137GB F drive, and all the rest of extra space on G)

Depending on which you chose, in your evox.ini, set use G drive to no or yes, and either add or don't add format G.

Once you have the correct bios on your chip, then follow the tutorial on x-s - you make the boot disc just like you did the first time you make one, just with a modified evox.ini file.

hope that helps.

also, another solution would be to use the newest xecuter bios which has embedded LBA48 support for drives greater than 137 GB.  the 06 is F and 67 is  F and G.

How about this, tell me EXACTLY what files should be on my HDD-setting up EvoX boot disc. Once I get that, we can eliminate it as a possible source of error. Also, the stock Seagate HDD was set to cable select, so maybe I should keep this new one on cable select too? And should I try using the IDE cable that came with the new HDD, it tells me to use in the manual?

UPDATE: I just put the original HDD back in and tried out the latest HDD-prepare EvoX boot disc and it worked first try, gives me the option to setup the new drive, etc. I didn't of course. The original HDD is set to cable select. When I boot it with the chip Enabled, Bank 1 and Protected, it does the whole load sequence, Xbox logo, MS logo, then goes to the original MS dash. Is this supposed to happen because this is what it's been doing all along for this setup, and I'm pretty confident the M7 flash went fine.

I don't know what I should do next. Someone suggested that my d0 point isn't soldered correctly, but could I have gotten this far successfully with a disconnected d0?  I don't know what to do next. Instal EvoX on the stock HDD or something?

do you get the error if you try to boot off of your install disk?

That is to say, the disk is already in the DVD drive and then you power on the box?
The new drive should be jumpered CS.

your chip is fine, as is your soldering, otherwise it would never have booted to your evox disc in the first place.

I think there's something wrong with your hard drive, man.  the old one in there works fine, right?  the only change is the drive.  I guess make sure it's getting power and all.  it might be useful to try that HDD in a pc to make sure it works.  This is a brand-new never been used drive?

The Dave Man - how many damn threads do you have on this?  I know of at least 2 others in the newbie forum where I personally answered you with a BAD DRIVE.

This board is not a promotion machine.  You are wasting other people's resources because we are all trying to solve YOUR problem separately.  Other people have issues too (many are a lot more complicated than a bad drive) and in the meantime you're pulling Scene resources away from them.  Continually bumping your own posts is bad enough but cross-posting and bumping them all is selfish.

Please go replace your drive and watch your Xbox work.  If you have another problem make ONE thread in ONE forum and try not to bump it more than a couple times a day (that means 2 not 10).  It is simply not fair to the other people who are also having problems and come here for help.

http://forums.xbox-s...ic=232890&st=15
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=233596

EDIT: MOTHER %*&%*&!!!  I just found a 4th thread.

http://forums.xbox-s...0

DO NOT CROSS POST - DO NOT CONTINUALLY BUMP YOUR OWN POSTS grr.gif

Case in point - in the time I've spent on your threads over the past few days as well as linking them and editing them so as to make sure we all don't continue to waste time on this I could have helped about 15 separate people.  Add up the rest of everyone's time in your threads and you likely took 35 separate posts away from other people all for something that is relatively easy and very conclusive to troubleshoot.
