Xebian 1.0.1 Error Message Upon Boot.
« on: March 18, 2004, 07:25:00 PM »

Xebian 1.0.1 on the E partition as an image file.
I installed kde and auto launch  vncserver upon boot so I can access Xbox from another computer.
I get this error message in a small window.  "Could not start kedinit.  Check your installlation."  There's an "okay" button, and when I click on it, the boot sequence resumes.  Otherwise, I can't see any major problems with it.  Does anyone know what this could be?

Same thing happens to me. I don't think it is a problem but it is kind of annoying.

seems like kdeinit isn't present or corrupt. a reinstallation of the kde-base should fix that.

I hope Xebian 1.0.2 is released soon, that fixes that annoying bug.
I'm surprised that such bug was overseen for a release version.

Hey Scan-C, I tried reinstalling kdebase by issuing this command.
apt-get install kdebase
I got this error message.
Sorry, kdebase is already the newest version.
Any other suggestions?
How do I report this bug to the development team?

looks like a spelling mistake, could be Xebian looks for kedinit instead of kdeinit, unless you spelt it wrong.

Hey Code-X, that was a typo on my part.
It says, "Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation."
This bug makes you wonder, if this is the *only* bug, or are there others?
Is this a problem on its own, or is it a symptom of a bigger problem?
Can we "trust" Xebian 1.0.1, or should we wait for 1.0.2?

After a bit of Searching it seems it's a KDE Bug, Apparently fixed in the latest version, I also found this
CODE

error message on startup: "Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation and try again." (This is due to a missing newline on line 164 of /usr/bin/startkde, after "LD_BIND_NOW=true")

i think an apt-get of the new KDE Should work.

Hey Code-X, thanks.  I just automatically assumed that the error was due to Xebian.  It never occurred to me to see if something else was the problem.  As you said, a quick search on Google brought up tons of posting regarding this error message.  This is not Xbox Xebian specific, but actually a Debian/KDE issue seen on PCs as well.
