Streaming Video To My 360 With A Ethernet/crossover Cable.

I was reading up on streaming to my 360 and I was wandering if I am able to stream to my 360 with an ethernet or crossover cable straight from my laptop, no router?  If so, which one?  And if I can, where can I find instructions for this?
Also, I am having trouble installing FLVSplitter.  Can someone help there too?
