I wouldn't be surprised if these HD-DVD players become a collectible and/or a VERY helpful medium (along with media) when the time comes to crack the 360 to run homebrew stuff on it.

I'd be willing to bet that these fly off the shelves at $49.99.  It comes with the $20 media remote plus King Kong in the box already - add in the 5 free movies by mail and even if you never bought another HD-DVD in your life you still got a great deal.

Yeah, I partially bought it for KK and didn't even realize that it came with a remote till I opened it. I already have the same remote, but I have a 360 in my livingroom and bedroom and always have to go in the other room to get the remote. I'd been wanting KK for a while now too, I have it in SD and didn't want to pay for it when I knew I'd get a 360 addon at some point and I'd be free with it. Funny too, I think my addon came from Canada, the KK in the box had something about Quebec on it and has the duel English/French languages on the cover.

Can anyone inform me about the LED's on the remote?

Are they the Surface Mounting type?

I wouldn't mind getting one of these just for the hell of it

Getting to be as cheap as a DVD player\

Yeah, I still never got around to doing mine but they are surface mount.

EDIT: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=544093

There is a disassembly guide, but it doesn't cover changing the LEDs, but there are 19 of them, have fun.

Before this is over, I'm going to have to buy one on ebay just to say that I owned one in 5 years laugh.gif . But seriously, that's an amazing deal. If they can come out with some ripping software for the PC (not sure if it's out, yet) then you could convert it to a common format, then burn it back to a blu-ray disc, or you could just play it on your PC.

It already exists.  AnyHDDVD (for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD ripping).  There are people who have ripped from HD-DVD and burned them to a BD-R and are watching them on their Blu-Ray players.  The process is a bit complicated at this point though.  wink.gif

Either way, you can get some HD-DVD titles for dirt cheap right now:

Starting at $9.98 shipped at Deep Discount DVD:

Starting at $11.95 shipped at Amazon (larger selection though)

Nope that was one of the big selling points of the format.  So there are titles in Europe, ect. that you can pick up on HD-DVD that are Blu-Ray exclusive here in the states.  Admittedly there are pretty spendy but for that odd "gotta have it title" it comes in handy.  If you live in the UK/Europe though this is a huge benefit since you can pick up titles from here in the US at approximately 1/3 the price of a Blu-Ray title over there.

Does this player do DVD upscaling? That would be the only reason to get it...

Your 360 already does this without the need for the HD DVD addon. Only through VGA or HDMI like mc_365 already said though.

I'm so glad I got my 5 free movies, didn't think the UK team would bother after 3 months lmao, it makes the £109 player worth the money and I bought 1 movie hope to get some cheap movies now. I use the drive to play DVD's as well to give the 360 drive a bit of a break.
