Cannot Play .mpg Files On Latest Elite Box
« on: January 30, 2008, 08:01:00 AM »

Got a new Elite and signed up to Xbox Live. Got all the updates from our lovely friends at MSFT.

Problem: I cannot get the xbox to see ANY files named xxxx.mpg on my USB stick. If cannot see it, it cannot play it sad.gif

For test, I used DVDShrink to produce several .VOB from my dvd.
I renamed one of then (a small one) to TEST.MPG.
I played that file on a PC using WMP 11 -- no problem.
I copied TEST.MPG to a USB stick and took it to the xbox and plugged it into the USB socket.
Went to the Media bladed and selected Video and selected my Portable Device (the USB stick).
It shows nothing !

I tried renaming to .WMV (i know it should not play).
This time it display the file but with a red NO ENTRY symbol and I cannot play.

I tried VOB2MPG and it made so difference.

So, the xbox is looking at the file name and it's content and it it's .MPG it says no no no no !

It gettng really frustrating. What's going on ????

Have MSFT changed the xbox extender to stop people playing MPG files ?

Can I undo the updates ?
