« Reply #15 on: January 26, 2008, 06:29:00 PM »

ok, sweet. i am online and everything seems to be working, but still searching for video. i have a feeling i need to install something to play media. i am using the 360 dashboard to view and look for files (pictures, mp3 and video). seems to be running somewhat smoothly. i still have some unanswered questions.

how do i set this up to access it from work?
is there a transcoder i need installed?
what will happen after my 30 day trial with TWonky?

I'm in the same situation.  I have the NSLU2 setup with unslung 6.10beta and twonky 4.4.3.1 and I can stream to the xbox, but not to the xbox360.

In fact, the xbox360 doesn't even connect to the nslu.

So, if you can help with some info I'd greatly appreciate it.

What version of unslug formware are you using?
What version of Twonkymedia server are you using?
Have you set any ports to be forwarded on your router?

When you got everything working, did you just have to media/video/computer blade and everything was just working, or was there some setup you had to do on the xbox360?

If you can PM and info, or post to this thread, I would greatly appreciate the help

i will attempt to help you. ((would be easier to IM you on AIM.))

you have to open the port on the router first and foremost.
i have the newest firmware on NLSU2 and newest uNSLUg firmware aswell.
one thing i am confused on is the video, wont play but i can see the folders. audio plays fine and so does pictures. you have to disconnect all computers before you attempt to connect to the NSLU2.
you should be able to add new computer, and go to manual or automatic. see if it works, if no. try to connect it to 192.168.1.77 which is the ip to your nslu2.
i just got up, sorry for being short. IM me on AIM and i will attempt some more if that doesnt work.. good luck

Hi

Seems like your getting somewhere. In answer to your q`s. After the 30 day trial i would assume the server will stop working (i purchased mine - i thought it was good value. You need the latest version of the dashboard and connect to live to allow your 360 to download the divx/xvid codec. You dont need a transcoder unless you wish to transcode a non-supported codec (such as mkv).

Thanks for the reply

What ports do I need to setup (UPD, TCP)?
I have Mindows Messenger account for IM correspondence.  Will this work fro you?

If now, perhaps a walkthrough on this forum or via PM might help too.

Thanks

Wallace: how do i download the codecs? whats the process?

Viper: 41952 is the port that allowed me to connect. you need to open that for 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.77 as well.

192.168.2.1 is your router?
Is this port UDP or TCP?

I'm still trying, but no luck yet ... it's is getting quite frustrating.  I have installed the windows version of Twonkymedia and that works.  I know the unslung setup works, because the original xbox1 can see the server and stream all the content on the attached HDD.  The darn xbox360 is totally oblivious to the NSLU ... I just don't understand what is wrong .... argh.

Fat32 + 500GB = nono. It doesn't work, fat32 doesn't support that big of a drive. You would have to invest in a personal server. I would recommend just plugging in an old computer or buying one of the cheapest ones you can find and then installing TVersity onto it. That would allow you to watch/listen to your files from any xbox or UPnP supported device in your house.

To update the 360 dashboard just connect to live (you dont need a gold account). To update to the xvid/divx codec you must also try to play a file while connected and a message will appear that you need to update (again). The process is automatic.

As far as the last comment about 500gb and fat32 - the nslu2 natively formats to ext3 (linux) this is the format the drive works best with in conjunction with the slug.

Viper - your router will probably be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 . Unless you hav specified a new ip range. I use a wired network but even on  my wireless one i didnt have to open any ports.

Ps. Once you have it working try de-underclocking :-) the slug`s are usully limited at 133mhz but can run at 266 :-P

de-underclocking huh? i read that some of the newer ones we already 266. i havent been able to find that information out or not on mine. would like to know. it does seem to take FOREVER to unzip a file or move a file from my laptop to the hard drive.

also, what are the chances you can help me set up the hard drive to be viewable from work? i obviously need to set that up and cant seem to figure out how. all your help has lead to sucess! thanks again!

what about iso or dvd files? HD files? i only seem to be able to play the divx or something similar from the update i got lastnight.

FYI TO EVERYONE!! www.qtrax.com started up today. free mp3 downloads. no joke, read the news about it. legal downloads!!! this is not spam!

My NAS setup is all wired.
Router is 192.168.2.1
NAS is 192.168.2.3 (static)
Xbox360 is 192.168.2.20 (dynamic)
Xbox1 is 102.168.2.101 (static)

I've installed unslung 6.10beta (but I didn't unsling the firmware to flash drive)
I've then installed 4.4.3.1 on a flash drive installed on disk2 on the NSLU2 (ext3 formatted via nslu2) This was done using the nasetup utility on the Twonkymedia package.  All went well during installation.

I then hook-up a 20GB FAT32 drive to disk1 that has a few MP3s and a few AVI videos to test.
I restart the nslu2 (after about 2 minutes, beep) and I can connect to the configuration page.  I setup my share folders, save settings, restarts if needed.  I also check to see is my 360 IP is listed on the client page (my 360 is running at this point and when I refresh the client list, the IP address for the 360 is automatically listed and checked)

So, all seems well ...

Now, I move to the 360 media blade and I try to connect to computers ... twonkymedia is not even listed.  At this point, I have tried many things from powering the 360 before the nslu, power on after nslu, opening ports on the router for the nslu and nothing seems to work.

I have also installed twonkeymedia on my laptop and the 360 has no problems detecting that mediaserver.

I'm sure the nslu setup works, because the xbox1 via XBMC will connect to the server and I can play the mp3s and the videos.

What else is there to do that I haven't done yet ?

wish i could help ya bro. but i cant. you lost me with the flash drive part and the xbox1. i never had an xbox1, so i dont know. i thought you had it working before. (if it aint broke, dont try to fix it)

as for your port forwarding/opening, looks like you know what your doing, so i would assume it is set up right. but remember, if your dynamic, it will continue to change and you have to keep setting the new ip. see if you can get it static and make sure it is right!

anyone know how easy it is to set up a way to access all my files from work that are on my hard drive at home, through the NSLU2?
also, can i play HD movies and .iso or .dvd files through media blade?

Hi

As for the hd files you can play them (wmv or .h264 on the 360) or any via your pc not sure about iso via the 360 but if you mount the iso using deamon tools on the pc connected you will be able to view it and .dvd is only a reference file for a disk image.. As for the remote access. Im sure you could log into an attached netowkr pc via remote desktop connection and access your shares that way.. not sure about directly into the nslu2. Ill ask on #nslu2-general on irc those guys are experts.

John

Viper : ill have a think about the 360 problem. It seems like a 360 problem as opposed to a nslu2 problem.
also the q to tha5150: im using 6.8 and unslung to a flash device and use a hard drive for data. I did this primarily as the 6.8 firmware access the rootfs every few seconds and i was trying (unsuccessfully) to get the drive spun down. Ive left it like this to reduce the chance of the hdd being corrupted when i switch  it off.

this is off the Linksys NSLU2 web site:
