4gb Limit Only On Mp4/avi?

Have have encoded some mkv files to wmv using the windows media encoder,all files are over 5gb but the 360 play's them just fine,so why do the 4gb limt just complies to the mp4 and avi files,what are so spesial whit an wmv file?

WMV is a codec developed by microsoft.
