What Is This. Avs Script?

Good evening folks. Newbie here and I'll get straight to the point. I'm having difficulty with this script file (movie.avs). How do I write this script? Is this something I can download? Do I have to write it myself? I'm stuck at this part and not sure where to go. If someone wouldnt mind pointing me in the right direction I would greatly be appreciated. So far I've only read 5 of 37 pages on here but will keep reading.

For the purposes the .avs file is used for conversion of mkv files.

Create a new notepad and type

DirectShowSource ("d:\Videos\HD\Nameofyourmovie.mkv")

Obviously your target location will differ from mine then save and rename the extension to .avs
