Im stunned by all the comments like: Great now we're going to get HD at lower cost. Who are you kidding? Have you ever noticed that monopolies always try to keep the income as high as possible? If you have noone to take your consumers why would you spend money on welfaer? Or do you truly believe that they go through the process of producing HD material just cause people need it, and they want to give something to the world? ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! So give your congratulations all you want but you are the once whom will pay for this in the end.

I wont jump on this madness to invest in another movie-player concept. I bought my first DVD standalone for $700 (Sure it was my own fault to jump on the new trend) and then 200+ movies that Ive seen 1 time (2 if it was really good). That like $6500 invested in movies. All of it just laying in the closet collecting dust till the day I decide that I need the space and throw it all away. I wont be doing this again!

I say f*ck the process of producing hardware that in the end only cost a shitload of money for the consumer. And gets thrown away for an upgrad (faster, tiny better, stylish). And what about the enviorment thanks to this useless production?

Give us digital distribution now! We dont need hardware that cripples us and holds the technology back. Buy an computer or console. Get that to decode the movie, play your music, games and whatever. Its so 90s to have 10 things thats only able to do one thing, and one thing only.

dry.gif If you look at things objectively, we really have no control over what format is released to consumers, it is all up to companies like Warner who put media on the market.  Whether it's Blue Ray or HD format, we, as the consumer, buy what is available.  These companies try to make us believe we are in a war that it is up to the consumer only to rape our wallets!  That is the only reason to tell us we are in control.  To be in a real format war is to release all media on both formats and truly let the consumer make their choice.

To back this statement up, think about how most consumers buy product.  Most consumers find themselves ignorant to what they are buying and find themselves in a place like circuit city asking someone else what they should buy only to find the movies they enjoy are not on the format they just purchased.  Rumors and word of mouth spread like a virus, complaints of this nature become rabid destroying credibility.  As a result, people are reluctant to buy anything because they are truly satisfied with the format they already have, which is DVD and do not want to participate in a prefabricated war (Beta and VHS was a true war due to the nature of the beast, anything born is a war!  Anything beyond is a mutation!).

Why did Warner make the move?  They were the wild card!  Media companies are scared because they know they screwed up.  Warner knows it.  Consumers are confused into believing standard DVD format is fine with their current HD setup.  It is up to Warner to stop this so called war to save the High Definition Disc format.

Why does the High Definition Disc format need saved you ask?  Well, it has competition, competition no one will acknowledge, Flash Memory Drives AKA Usb Stick!  In 2009 Samsung will release their new chip that can access up to 69GB of memory in one chip.  That means a USB stick drive that can hold massive amounts of data.  In line with the new standards for Nano Technologies, 45 nm technology, means certain death for the inefficient Laser disc media.  This will happen rather quickly as the conversion has already started, consumers are buying up USB Sticks at a rather fast pace.  This seems to be the popular choice in the so called format war.  tongue.gif

What should HD Dvd do?  Well this is my answer.  As DCHM (or whatever it is) is all about stopping us from ripping media, burning High Definition a difficult process.  As of right now, there is little or no way to capture High def content unless it is over the air.  Over the Air is becoming less used and I foresee a spike in cable and/or satellite sales when the digital switch gets flipped in 2009 (2009 seems to be an interesting year for technology).  HD Dvd should dump a bunch of stock in Any DVD as Blue Ray can be ripped, then produce low cost stand alone and PC burners and quickly jump on the laser disc out party as Blue Ray will be producing High cost Burners and Low cost Players.  Just my 2 cents.

I have all the control on my video I want. Personally I could give two shits for either format. I am strictly a x264 and wmv-hd  man. I know from experienoce. I wont ever buy a sony product. Have had to many bad experiences with them. Personally hd-dvd just lost the war. I wouldnt waste money on either product. The hd-dvd now is a big joke. I am so glad I seen the light many moons ago. My wmv-hd play so well on my network. So I think I will stay with this codec for a very long time. Blu-ray and hd-dvd can just kiss my ass. That is close they will ever get in my house. Just my 2 cents.

Most definitely agree. Tired of having all those pesky discs lying arround the house.
I'm also a x264 and wmv-hd individual...so, I don't give 2 shits about this format war. My focus is on gaming. Period...

Whoever has the best games and on line service at the end will win and I believe MS has the edge

Well....

HD-DVD...fuckin' die already...  YOU dropped the ball, lost warner and disney....now roll over and die...I don't give a shit if you were better...  the DC was better then the consoles of its time and it died...  Beta was better than VHS...  Did it matter for them?  no...  if you care about the consumer, then admit defeat and close the fuck down..  YOU dropped the ball.

What would happen to this "War" between BR and HD DVD if Toshiba reduced thier HD DVD player to a MSRP of $99, With the mail offer for free movies? I would think that it would hurt too much since the players have been that price before, as a special deal.

It wont matter if they drop them to $25 per player. If the movies you want is not going to be playable on the player then it is over.

Paramount will be the looser here. HD-DVD paid them a ton of cash for a 1 year exclusivity. So now them and Universal will be stuck unless Paramount can get out of their contract somehow.

Why do people take this so personally. You all knew this was over before it began. You just had to look at the bigger picture.

Couldnt agree more. Worst of them is Disney. My oh my what alot of crap they put on there DVDs. Copyright, THX logo, Disney logo, some trailer shit and everything is before you can even get to the menu. And thanks to the "lock remote" possibility when creating disc you cant get around them. Kids will lose interest before the movie even starts  biggrin.gif

Think about the possibilities they get to fill out all thouse GBs on Blu-Ray (cause we all know how much the movie REALLY needs) Lots and lots of junk that you just want to get passed. Thats even priority when it comes to Original DVD vs. Xvid for myself, get around the spamming!

Well, having just made a trip to Best Buy today  I took a look at the HD movie isle. Over a 20 minute time span, there were 20 bluray customers and only 2 HDDVD cstomers (myself included). Its pretty sad really how this has all turned out so bad. I was one of the first people last october/november to get my hands on a HDDVD play addon for my xbox 360. I never really saw many movies on the format which I NEEDED to have, but I still felt that taking a dive into the format that I wanted to win would be the easiest way to get my HD content for my big TV. Then, slowly, over a 6 month period more and more (and better, non dated or "restored") movies started showing up as Blu Ray exclusives and Iknew this wasnt looking good. Over the past 2 months with the fire sales of HDDVD players I was really hoping that a group such as Time Warner would at least stick it out a bit longer to see if the consumer would go with the lower cost alternative. I am a bit bitter and once this war is declared definitively over, itll still probably take me a few years to buy into Sony's format. But hey, it was all my choice - no excuses for that. I just wish it wasnt all about bribery and who can stuff the most money in studios' pockets FTW. Just my personal 2 cents.

The info was posted for those that want to call, and you are wrong the users on this site are not the only ones who bought hd players and this was posted on their press release web site so not just the few hundred that read this post will be the only ones that know about it, also a few random people add up fast.. "a few hd players sold at bestbuy dosent mean anything, but add up all the ones sold at all the bestbuys." either way, I dont own an HD or Blueray so I dont benefit or lose no matter who wins or loses.. I just posted the info there for those who want it and for those that dont care^^ Dont call, read on and skip to the next post....

That has absolutely nothing to do with which format (Blu ray or HD-DVD) will win.
Did you read the title? or too busy lumping this as PS3 v 360.
