Hi all,

New to posting but have been reading on here for months.

I recently got the HD DVD player add on, and I have it connected to my Elite 360. The 360 is connected to my TV via HDMI, and it does a fine job of upconverting standard DVDs. Can the HD DVD player upconvert the standard DVDs? I put a standard DVD in it and it plays, but it looks awful. If there is an update I need to download, it will have to wait a bit, as I recently just moved into my new house, so I can't connect to Live until I get the wireless adapter.

It's no big deal, as I can just play the old ones in the XBOX itself.

you will have to stick with xbmc for upconverting - unless a modchip and xbmc360 is ever released

Thanks for the reply, but I think you misunderstood the question. I want to know if the HD DVD player--which is connected to my XBOX 360 Elite, which is connected to my TV via HDMI-- is supposed to upscale my standard DVDs. I know the XBOX can do it, as it does a good job.

Ah, I see what you were talking about now. I said XBOX at the end, not XBOX 360. I'm only talking about my XBOX 360 Elite.

yes the hd-dvd drive does upscale normal dvd's...when i watch a normal dvd ,i always use the hd drive and not the console itself

i am pretty sure the 360 does not have an upscaling feature for SD-DVD's! rather, i have never seen any mention of the XBOX360 dashboard being capable of upscaling any standard definition dvd's(and i read a lot about my favorite console). i personally do not have hdmi on my tv, but i do have a vga connection.

my SD movies still play at 720x480 when i insert them into either the console drive or the HD-DVD drive... try it yourself and check the display info on your tv to see what resolution you have for your SD movies.

Huh? My hd-dvd add on definitely upconverts standard dvd's over a vga connection. I'm pretty sure HDMI works also.

I would assume that the HD player would upscale a standard DVD while connected to a 360 with HDMI, but you know what happens when you assume things. I put in Pirates of the Carribean 3 and it looked like hell. Hmmm... I can't test any out, as my Elite got the AWESOME three red lights

I'll let you know any progress when I get it back. Thanks for the replies!
