Canadian Video Markeplace pricing unearthed

It's kinda frustrating to hear we Canucks pay about %50 more than the Yanks.
If you ask me, their pricing will fail, I don't think anyone here will pay $9 to "rent" an HD movie.  They're asking too much, its not a good way to kick-off the marketplace.

Is anyone taking into account that MS points are more expensive in Canada? To buy a 1400 point card it's $20+tax (you pay tax on the points, why pay tax on the movie too? That's double taxation!).

($22.18/1400)*610 = $9.67

So it's practically $10 for an HD movie rental. That's criminal. I won't pay, especially now that HD DVD players are getting pretty cheap, and both blockbuster and Rogers video is renting HD movies.

When will MS lower the price of MS Points here in Canada?

There would be no tax on the movie itself, as the MS points card was already taxed when purchased.  The taxes have already been paid for those points, therefore MS is simply gouging the Canadian consumer.  This is a fairly normal trend as Canadians have always paid more for all our media.  American pricing is based on volume of sales which allows a lower price point based on the sheer quantity of sales.  The Canadian market is smaller so to pull the same profit margins here they charge a higher price.  It's BS.

With the last Divx dashboard update I think I'll just stream my downloaded HD movies to my Xbox for free.  I haven't paid for a movie in the last 3 years that I haven't wanted my money back at the end.  (Anyone see the Wicker Man?)

And considering there is no packaging, shouldn't that make the price of the movie around $3??  Canadian retailers have been justifying the cost of movies and CDs for years, stating that up to 40% of the cost is packaging.  So no package should = a 40% discount right?

Actually Canadians are responsible for their own high taxes, but SHHH don't tell them that.

Double taxation? That's only moderately illegal.

Nonetheless, i won't be buying. Not worth the money. I really don't need HD content THAT badly.

Man, and I thought the US vid marketplace was a rip off. $5 bucks would be a reasonable price for me if I could KEEP the movie permanently and watch it whenever. But $5-10 bucks to RENT is outrageous, does M$ not know about Blockbuster/Netflix/any other local video rental services that charge half the price to rent HD movies.

Thats a fucking piss off, for real...

and all the people saying, "Ohhh...if you dont like it don't get it"...

thats not the point, the point is our money is worth more, and it makes no sense to charge us more...

like Hitler said, "What luck for rulers that men don't think"

All the middle and lower class always bend over and take it in the ass...

Keep the moral low in those classes so nobody goes out and votes for people who protect their interest....

"why vote, what has the government done for me lately???"

Another addition is, here in Canada, we been without this feature for EVER, now we are finally getting it, late as fuck....

then why all this time have we been paying MORE for our live "service", with 1/3rd the features as our American friends...

Literally, all we can do is play games online and download demos...

ok....  I know that is a big feature, but I use to do that on DREAMCAST FOR FREE...  Not to mention the PS3 network...

so why is it, our dollar is worth more, we pay more for live and half literally 1/3rd the features?  I dont get it...  this whole "paying for live" is fucking STUPID.

and three dollars more???  comparable to other on demand services....  seriously, fuck off M$, MONEY SUCKING WHORES...

You would need your head examined to pay over $9 to rent an HD movie.  If they priced them for at least half that price, they would do 3-5X the volume.

The MS execs making these pricing decisions are hurting their own bottom line.
