Very nice update, but since it wont play RAR files it's worthless to me.

Long live XBMC!

Edit: Then again, I can always extract and play via USB stick which saves having to burn a disc.

Nice touch there...

I heard about the update, and thought it was about time. Now only to find out you still can't stream divx..WTF!?!? Who is the genius that thought this one up... In my house discs are obsolete, and this is just a waste of time.  This is the main reason I never used the 360 for any kind of video, and probably never will...

Microsoft is so behind the ball with the codecs. We should be able to stream 1080p mkv's by now. Needless to say this whole xvid update was a bit...pointless?

PS- evans112628, how are you streaming the divx from your pc? One of those on the fly converters?

Also Bubbalynch, ever heard of extracting the file?

It streams just fine from pc.  Must be encoded divx 5 or above.

Why the hell would I extract ANY video file when XBMC plays them fine??

I don't stream shit and discs aren't "obsolete" as you so put it in my house. Does that answer your ignorant question?

Yeah, um, it streams. Congratulations on looking like a tool, though.

i posted earlier in the update thread in the xbox 360 general forum and when playing divxs the screen blanks out and only the sound plays. what the problem is with my wierd no picture but sound on my divx files playback is im using the vga cable at the resolution of 1360x768 on a samsung 32 lcd and when i play a divx the picture blanks out and switches the resolution to 640x480 and theres no picture and basically the console locks up, if i change the resolution down to 640x480 then the divx plays fine no problems, its also works fine when i use component cables, can anyone else emulate this bug?

Many thanks

I'm using a vga cable on the highest res, to my lg 42inch 1080p lcd and getting the same as you.  I haven't tried the component cables yet.

I know the movies and discs are fine because they play on XBMC and standalone divx player.

here's how to fix that problem but you need component cables
When trying to play 25 or 50 fps content, I don’t get any video over VGA

This only affects consoles which output PAL-50 and PAL-60 output modes. There is a known issue in which 25 or 50 fps video sometimes doesn’t display over a VGA connection if you have previously connected your Xbox over component video output.

The workaround for this issue is as follows:

1.       Connect your Xbox 360 to a display device using a component video cable

2.       Go to the System Blade

3.       Go to Console Settings

4.       Go to Display

5.       Set your display settings to a different resolution than is currently selected (e.g., set it to 480p if your current setting is 720p)

6.       You should see a slider with the words “Your display settings have changed. You can keep this setting or try another. Do you want to keep the new settings? If you keep the new settings, your TV will be tested to see if it also supports this setting at 50Hz.” Answer “Yes, keep these settings” to this prompt.

7.       After this your display will be tested for 50Hz output

8.       You should see a slider with the words “Now displaying at 50Hz. Does this display appear correctly?”  Answer  “No” to this prompt even if the display is correct. Again, make sure to answer “No” to this prompt.

9.       Connect your Xbox up via VGA again. The videos should now play correctly.
and no it does not mean you are setting you 360 to 50hz

this worked!!! many thanks  pop.gif

but XBMC is still damn good. most divx/xvid are really pixelly with X360 compared to when the same film played via XBMC.

I agree this can't replace XBMC for older stuff.  I was hoping this update might get me to start encoding for the 360, since I was hoping I would have backwards compatibility with my existing library.

I have found this update hit or miss.  A lot of my files play fine, but some will pop up with unsupported codec even though I encoded most of my stuff the same way every time.  I mean I could see some of my older stuff being in an unsupported version of Xvid, but not my newer stuff.

Also does not appear to like Nero Digital, which I experimented with for a while.

Still, it is nice to have the option to play some of my files through the 360.
