seriously cool update, cant wait to watch some movies through this

great thing is that it upscales the images too biggrin.gif

makes me wonder if this'll play high res/def xvid/divx files wink.gif

i just tested a 720p converted movie file that i converted with Divx Converter. good news is that it played bad news is that it has crappy quality then the original file. wonder if its a problem with my settings or if its the 360 its self???

can anyone confirm this? uhh.gif

Has anyone been able to make it work through a networked hard drive?  I have drives mapped to my Vista machine and even though I can add the videos to the Media Player 11 library I can't see them on my 360.  All I see are video files on the c drive although still some show some don't not sure why.  Also does anyone have a problem with the volume being rather low?

well its definitely media ceter not supporting the update for some odd reason (lazy move on M$'s part) so the main thing to do for now is have media player 11/zune for divx/xvid.

Everything works fine for me.. only prob is i have 2 large HDs in my pc.. and they are both partitioned... and i can only get my xbox to see the movies from my C drive.. ex.. desktop my Docs etc... anyone know if i can get it to see the other drives??

All you have to do is open WMP11 and click the arrow under library and click add to library. Then manually add the folder you want to share. It can take awhile. It took my system a little bit of time since I have a massive collection of movies.

btw: I'm not sure if it helped but when I was trying to figure out how to do it also. I went to the folder I wanted to add and clicked properties and enabled sharing.?

hope it works.

That is the way to do it, that's what I had to do since my WMP was only configured to share the music directory.

I've tested a few divx/xvid files and they all play perfectly. However, 5.1 embedded audio is NOT being decoded and sound is stereo-only. I have played them from a usb pen drive as well.

i get exactly the same problems... though i have a different TV, but my setup is also 1360x768 using PAL x360. when i press the info button on my TV the resolution says 640x480@59Hz but blank screen with sound (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Exactly the same problem for me with vga

Component works fine
S-Video Fine
Scart Fine

640x480 works on vga

1360x768 = crash and burn

Oh the ones that seem to do it are 25fps (pal me thinks)

here's how to fix that problem but you need component cables
When trying to play 25 or 50 fps content, I don’t get any video over VGA

This only affects consoles which output PAL-50 and PAL-60 output modes. There is a known issue in which 25 or 50 fps video sometimes doesn’t display over a VGA connection if you have previously connected your Xbox over component video output.

The workaround for this issue is as follows:

1.       Connect your Xbox 360 to a display device using a component video cable

2.       Go to the System Blade

3.       Go to Console Settings

4.       Go to Display

5.       Set your display settings to a different resolution than is currently selected (e.g., set it to 480p if your current setting is 720p)

6.       You should see a slider with the words “Your display settings have changed. You can keep this setting or try another. Do you want to keep the new settings? If you keep the new settings, your TV will be tested to see if it also supports this setting at 50Hz.” Answer “Yes, keep these settings” to this prompt.

7.       After this your display will be tested for 50Hz output

8.       You should see a slider with the words “Now displaying at 50Hz. Does this display appear correctly?”  Answer  “No” to this prompt even if the display is correct. Again, make sure to answer “No” to this prompt.

9.       Connect your Xbox up via VGA again. The videos should now play correctly.
and no it does not mean you are setting you 360 to 50hz

sweet
where did you get this info from

If this does work it should be posted in on the main page

its sort of like the this game only supports 60hrz bug in games like topspin 2
when you are useing vga and have to connect up a composite cable to set that ports inputs to 60hrz only

For those still wondering...

X264 does NOT work.
.mkv does not pick up as a playable file type.
renaming to .mp4 does not work either.

Maybe there is another way...but i havent been able to do it

Media files in .mkv container are not supported in this update. Only divx/xvid in .avi container are playable.
You have to convert  .mkv to .mp4 for the 360 to play.
This update is kinda late to me. Watching 480p-< upconvert on big screen is not very enjoyable.
