I tried TVersity and it worked fine for low quality videos (I have an 5yr old PC). I don't want to pay $$$ for a new system so that I can watch HD Divx/xvid movies, so the inclusion of the codec support on the 360 will allow me to just use my old machine as a file server and not worry about streaming to the system.

I think you're right.  It sounds like he got confused between the 360 and the PS3 and they quickly tried to kill the subject.

..although I hope I'm wrong.   smile.gif

yea lets hope he's not talking about the ps3 here cuz dvix would be great for the 360 but MKV hd would be great as well or avi or a whole codec package  jester.gif

I don't know if you guys remember, but there was a rumored list of fall update items that came out a couple of months ago. One of the items then looked to be divx/xvid support. Especially with the PS3 adding it in, I think it is a very real possibility. Certainly it has to be one of the most requested features from their fans and is one of the things that really is holding it back. I just hope they include the support in the Media Center extender and not just in the videos section. It would be far more useful to me that way.

well MS is officially putting divx support into the windows media extenders. The 360 is the premier media extender. So its inevitable that divx will be implemented in the 360 some way. Time will tell.

Divx extender Ms approved

saying the 360 wont get divx is like saying The ps3 wont get blu ray profile 1.1  cool.gif

So I saw this page today on xbox.com http://www.xbox.com/...ystemupdate.htm

Down at the bottom of the page it says " Video support now includes AVI and MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile."  Any one know what Codec's for the AVI container they added. I have looked all over there site and can't find it.  I am assuming Divx maybe Xvid.  Lets hope. Anyone have more info on this.

There are also some notable updates on the video side. Small update: full-screen previews. Megaton update: MPEG-4 Part 2 video codec support. Specifically, MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP (advanced simple profile) and SP (simple profile) in an AVI container. What does that mean to us humans? Greenberg decodes, "What that basically means is that our users should find that most of their DivX and Xvid files will work because they're under that umbrella of the MPEG-4 Part 2 codec."
