Bitwize: A question for you -

On step 2 of your guide, you recommend to use WMNicEnc to extract audio from the mkv file and encode it to WMA. Whenever I choose an encode type of 5.1, e.g. 640 kbps 48kHz 5.1 24 bit CBR, WMNicEnc throws an error straight after clicking the Encode button. Choosing the Multi-pass Encoding option makes no difference. The only Audio options that work are the 2-channel selections, resulting in stereo-only WMA Audio. I am certain the my source files all have 5.1 channel audio. Below is the .avs script that I am using:

DirectShowSource("H:\My Movies\English\BeautyOfJapan.mkv")

The error reported in WMNicEnc is:
FAILED(hr=oxc00d0bc6) in converter.Initial( EncParams.szIn, FALSE, EncParams.szOut, EncParams.pProfile, FALSE, TRUE, FALSE, -1).

With regards to DTS...

As long as you select the correct channels in the AC3filter (I leave 'AS IS' and 24bit) you can use AviSynth to pass the audio through to WMNicEnc with no problems! Saves messing around with other programs!

I used CodecTweakTool228 around 50 times, I manually uninstalled every program I can find that has a codec and I still have this damn error message.

Someone please help lol

I wrote this conversionmethod in another thread. Very easy solution, drag and drop the files you want to convert.

Works with DTS.

Are you useing expression encoder 2 or the original expression (media) encoder? and how are you importing the prx file.

Hey sorry for bumping an old topic but this tutorial might be the answers to my prayers! I follow all of it but the audio extraction part, what are you using to extract the audio and get this .avs file? I can extract the .mkv audio file but cannot use that in the WMNicEnc. Thanks a ton in advance

this is a dumb method.

Use mine:

Download TMPGEnc program
Download MKV codec
Read the help section in TMPGEnc if you are new

Use the specs on page 1 of this topic or create your own by playing around

Done. This program will convert mkv to high def wmv

Stream your movie from PC to xbox360 via winamp remote. If stream is bad, upgrade your modem to a docsis 2.0 or better yet, the new docsis 3.0. Or get Verizon Fios.

I prefer to use Expression Encoder because I find the video quality is much better. I wrote an application to get rid of all these steps while still using EE. Check out Video Encoder. It uses the Expression Encoder SDK and can encode 5.1 channel audio without jumping through all the hoops. Batch encoding is much easier too.

Hope it helps others with their encoding.

Thank you, much appreciated. Encoding time works out at around 90% of the film's duration, using 8k CBR/640kbps 5.1.

Which app exactly is giving you this error? What is the file type/contents/size? Does it happen with other mkv files or just this one?
