you could do the same thing to d0 so the chip cant be enabled w/o the key, but the xbox still works. (if you have meddling kids)

Ya that's a good idea I'll add a password protect to my new ir remote and disconnect the yellow switch wires. You could only powwr up with the remote after you entered your PIN. This will be set with a jumper on the chip if you need a password. Nice. , <evil grin> I can unlock my box without toucghing it via the sony remote.

Doesnt your diagram wire the puwer button and the eject tray together? That can not be right. Also why cut the yellow wires when ythey will pop right out of the header.

yea that was the problem, and you cant put both on a switch without making them together so you must cut the purple wire..

Very nice tut............thats creative thinking there  biggrin.gif

Nice for those who have little kids that insist on messing with everything  jester.gif

Edit: This should really be pinned in tutorials

that would be prety cool to get this pinned. my 1st idea i got on my one and created, and its pinned. hopefuly.

i was sitting in my room and saw this old pice of shit computer and thought i should do something with it and get it out of my room. so i thought what parst do i want . while opening the case i found the keys in the case and thought how cool it was to have a key on you computer. then 2 seconds later i saw my open xbox and had the idea to put it in the xbox.

hopefully people use this..

good luck

I think the idea of a key in the back is a little funky when my IR remote one unlocks with a key or some keys off the remote, not sure how I want to deploy it, just enabled with a jumper and either push one key to unlock or make it a 4 number PIN.

nice Tutorial.
i had this same idea a few months ago but couldnt find one of the keylock switched right away unless i got one online and had it shiped. so instead what i did was rig up the box to only be usable if the correct password is entered at bootup.

1) I did this by getting the APP called Xselector (source also avalable). what you do with xselect is make it your default dash and when the xbox is turned on it asks for a password. if you enter the correct password it will ether boot the dash you want or let you choose from a list of all the ones you have installed.

2) The only problem with this is that if somone puts in a game the xbox will boot the game befor asking for the password. But there is a simple fix for this, just open your bios with the app Xbtool. Change the bios to boot somthing other then default.xbe for example: Xbox.xbe. then flash the bios back on your chip and you have an xbox that will not load anything untill the correct password is entered with the controller. (all games and DVDs will still boot like normal once your in your Dashboard.)

(if you forget password just make a boot disc with xbe named Xbox.xbe and it will boot without asking password)

*note* this can also be used as a safty feature not just from others but from your self. For example: people always seem to have mistakes and mess somthing up on the xbox by accident, lets say you delete a file your dash needs or you install a new version that dosnt work. instead of having to find a boot disc and booting to the boot disc to ftp in and fix it. with the xbox set up this way all you gotta do is enter the password and tell it to boot a different dash untile you fix it.

Shit, if I had to keep my kids off the box for some reason I just take the power cable with me and hide it.  biggrin.gif  No need for a key. I got too many damn keys as it is.

Nice tutorial though.. wink.gif
