Microsoft Announces Windows Media Center Internet TV Beta
« Reply #15 on: September 29, 2007, 08:19:00 PM »

I just opened up my media center and the TV beta was already there tongue.gif

I tried it out.  I'll mess with it more.  Didn't they said you could watch HDTV?  Or do you need like 3mb down or something like that?

If I wanna watch any show at anytime I'll just stick with torrents

xp had bad driver support that was all. vista has bad driver support droped legicy hardware and bloted and full of drm bullshit. majer compatbly issues. the system pretty mutch whont run anything m$ doesent like and that includes mp3s and movies. even if they fix all the problems it will still be a drm bs os.

when xp dies out and it whont for a wile couse alot of people are like me i will simply start running linux fulltime. i aruldy have a dule boot install but i still use xp for a cuple games but i rather not be able to run a few games vs having drm bs on my pc. the day my pc os whont let me do somthing i whant it to do is the day the vender crossed the line and m$ has done so.

so when i say never i mean never.

Is it free only during the Beta, or will it remain free, and ad supported after the beta?

Exactly.. I have yet to encounter anything in Vista that I cannot do in XP (Except for play C & C 3 {drivers...}) but other than that everything works as usual. Of course the ultimate is having a tri-boot system. That way if it doesn't work one way just flip to another OS

People said the same thing about xp years ago. Vista is a smooth experience and safer for people of less than average intelligence. Not to mention it's FAST even on older hardware. Give it time.

Umm, Do you work for Microsoft?  I bought a brand new Core2Quad and installed all new Vista compatible apps and it STILL runs like crap.  I guess I should be thankful that Microsoft was kind enough to release a performance and stability update in August, only 9 months or so after release, that finally made my system stable enough to not require daily reboots.

I have ALWAYS installed and run Microsoft Operating Systems when they launch, and almost always starting with early betas, so I know full well what to expect from a new OS.  Vista is without a doubt the worst pile of crap that Microsoft has ever released.  No question.

Back on topic.  Am I to interpret this news as the fact that Microsoft no longer plans to offer IPTV on the Xbox 360?  It would appear that they are backtracking so that they can keep the world Windows Centric.  There really has never been a practical reason for the Xbox or the 360 to require a Media Center PC, as can be experienced first hand with the incredible XBMC.  It would be a shame if MS kept up this annoying requirement with the Xbox 360 as well.

same hear i have been using windows oses sence 3.1 and i have never seen such a pile of crap that vista is. even if you toss all my points 1 is still true its blotware every windows os in histery has alyways been dubble specks in system regs. like 98 needed 32 megs of ram and xp 64. vista 512 from xp 64 thats 4x. and it barly will run on 512 you need at least 2 gigs or more and at least a dule core prosser and even then its still horiddly slow. even with the update.

if you think abought if there wasent a problem and a majer one do you think they woulda even relesed a perforance update. that btw didnt help alot. iv seen systems with 4 gigs of ram crawl compared to my xp box with 1 gig and a single core.  plenty of people have tryed vista and ran back to xp after the os was horridly slow and failed to install anything they wanted or simply didnt work due to drivers.

on topic all these apps are just a sad attempt to sell vista. otherwise they would be a xp version sence 90% of there base is still xp and probly isnt going to switch anytime soon.

I'm in Canada and it doesn't seem to be working either.  I use Buffalo NY guide listings for my ATSC tuner card, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Ah online tv!! Halleluja! only one tiny tiny problem....US citizens only... As with the 360 we outside US has to live with crap content for download. Sure here in sweden i can download the crappy (oh well some are fun) games in arcade for a small fortune.. But movies? tv-series? or stuff like that? Yes i can download some crappy movie trailer from 2005... Thats fun... How about starting to care of the rest of the world. I mean god damn its been out for 2years almost... And still nothing. How about letting the rest of the world get the stuff that US get? Ahh.. can not do that coz the tv series and movies and stuff are shown much earlier... Ok how about releaseing ANYTHING to us so we also can enjo....no?....oh....ok thx for nothing

Microsoft was super vauge about how to get Internet TV on Vista..  And the main instructions are for people with TV Tuners by updating the guide..  Umm..  thanks...

If you have Vista Premium or Ultimate, but no TV tuner, you have to force an update.

from http://msmvps.com/bl...l/Default.aspx:

Tasks | Settings | General | Automatic Download Options.
Check "Retrieve CD album art...from the Internet", Save.
Go back into Automatic Download Options, select the "Download Now" button near the bottom.
