Microsoft today launches a beta of its Windows Media Center Internet TV platform. Microsoft's Internet TV initiative was first hyped for the Xbox 360 platform, but it will first show up on Windows Vista machines.

Owners of Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate will be able to access free ad-supported TV content without the need for a hardware TV tuner. Over 100 hours of programming will initially be available during the beta phase including episodes of "Arrested Development" along with music concerts by John Mayer and Snoop Dogg.
Vista users will also have access to news clips from MSNBC and sports highlights from FOX Sports.

Owners of Microsoft's Xbox 360 will be happy to know that their consoles can be used as Windows Media Extenders to view the same content available on Windows Vista.

very nice, were it not some countries still have worthless ISP's which give you datalimits for your expensive 42 euros subscribtion.
honestly, for those people(such as belgians and several others), this feat is useless.
just watching nasa TV already kills our datalimit of usually round 10 gigs.

I've seen this in action on several vista boxes, through several media extenders AND 1 XB360. I it seemed to work ok but its all MSN video beta.
If anyone else is in NYC they should go to DigitalLife, not as good as previous years but interesting none the less. Plus microsoft is giving out pop corn and playing cards that claim to be vista compatible tongue.gif

ok, I loaded up Media Center in Vista, but I don't see a link to signup for the beta.  So I looked around thinking that I didn't need to signup, but saw none of the programs listed in the article, such as Arrested Development.  Does anyone know where the link to signup might be?

Its not hard to program a great internet TV program.  The hard part is hosting the TV streams and getting the content.  Which is especially hard to do with no ads.

Here’s how you get the update for anyone interested:
1. When in Media Center, go down to Tasks, then go over to settings and press ok
2. Go down to TV and press ok
3. Go down to Guide and press ok
4. Go down to “Get Latest Guide Listings”, press ok and then click Yes.

That’s it, after the download you’ll be able to see the Internet TV option under TV and Movies.

I did exactly that and I don't see the Internet tv option.  Anything else to try?

People said the same thing about xp years ago. Vista is a smooth experience and safer for people of less than average intelligence. Not to mention it's FAST even on older hardware. Give it time.

Would be nice to see this feature coming to the 360 imagine watching heroes mondays on your 360!  biggrin.gif
