Choppy Hd Wmv Playback On 360
« on: September 06, 2007, 03:20:00 PM »

I have a 1080p video clip with an AC3 5.1 audio track that I converted to HD WMV for 360 playback.  I used Encode360 to convert it from MKV to WMV using the "X-Box 360 over LAN" preset for WME9 codec and CBR 1-Pass.  The scaling option is set to 1920x1080 and the video is 1920x800.

The video converted with no problems and plays back perfect in WMP10; the audio is perfectly in sync even if I jump to a point at the end of the video.  The problem however is that the video doesn't smoothly play on the 360.  I put it on a portable USB 2.0 hard drive and it shows up on the video list.  When I play it, the 360 can't keep up with the video, and the choppy video (plays at roughly estimated 10fps) falls far out of sync with the audio.  The video doesn't only play back choppy, but at 1/2 to 1/3 normal speed while the audio plays back fine.

I've tried using a few programs to convert the video, and Encode360 is the only one I can get to convert the video in a reasonable amount of time or at all.  I'm currently in the process of converting it to WVC1, CBR 2-Pass, but as you know it's a time consuming process.  Does anyone with experience know how I can fix my video playback issue?

I have not tried with any 1080 files but would the USB 2.0 transfer be the bottleneck ??

Don't change your resolution. This burns black bars to your video. Just keep it 1920x800 and the 360 will draw the black bars as necessary.
