Easy Mkv To Mp4 For Xbox 360

thank you! Ill try that. Hope that doesnt destroy my working Tversity settings.

There are lots of people trying the same thing on other forums and this is the first time ist should work properly without encoding the h264 file.
Im trying to collect Information for them and solve ist properly with this Method.

Would be really great if we could get more details on the settings in the tools in generally (just from people who had no Problems with this and can play the resulting mp4 over external usb device.).

Did you get memory errors? Had that on my first try including the split files...

Try selecting the "safesync" option. Then GOTsent won't use a3filter/directshow -> wav but ffmpeg -> neroaacenc.exe.

EDIT:

Hi guys, I have a weird problem with converting mkv to mp4 using GotSent.

I have absolutely no problem getting perfect playback when converting videos like an episode of Heroes or Planet Earth but every time I convert a movie, the video is awfully blocky.

At first I thought it was due to file size but that couldn't be the case since the episode of Planet Earth I converted was slightly bigger than one of the movie files I have. I tried to re-convert the movie using 25fps as that is the original fps on the mkv file but I'm still getting the blocky video.

Can someone help me out here? I don't know what's wrong. uhh.gif  uhh.gif

The strangest thing happens when i use gotsent: While i'm monitoring the folder where the output file is supposed to appear at the end of the process, it actually appears, but when gotsent is "done", it dissapears. So basicaly i get nothing.

2. Question, how to do i convert an AAC LC 6ch to 2ch? I was able to make the mp4 from a mkv (though i get really ugly playback problems, like ugly squares), but when i mux it with the audio, like it's a 6ch source, the 360 won't play it.

How about subtitles?

Is there a way to use this way and have subtitles working with xbox 360?

Nope.

MP4 supports a few different ways of embedding subs, but none of them are supported by Xbox360. I tried embedding SRT, TTXT and finally DVD-style vobsub-file (like NERO), you just get "not available" from the subtitle icon.

So just bite the bullet and encode the damn thing to WMV9 or VC1 with burned subtitles. I'd suggest AutoMKV. dual (quad!) core CPUs are not very expensive these days  dry.gif

After some trial and error this is the easiest way I have found to get this working.

Large files such a movies need to be split beforehand as said above.  I tried splitting in post and it just doesnt work, even with GotSents split feature, which splits the mp4 as opposed to the mkv before conversion.

So

1) MKVmerge to split the file into the appropriate filesizes (under 4gb) > start muxing

2) Gotsent to convert the new mkv's into 360 compatible video.

3) burn and enjoy ohmy.gif)

I'll ask the dev team at GotSent of they can include the option to split mkv before so it will work with 360, if a few others join in then we have a 1 click process for conversion.

Cheers, Ant

Still blocky even when cut into 2 mkvs both around 2G  wink.gif

I guess that the latest video update doesn't help much when it comes to having 5.1 sound?

I guess 5.1 AC3 is only supported for avi containers which in turn can't or mustn't hold MP4 content, right?
Otherwise one could try to convert MKV to AVI with 5.1 AC3 and MP4 video.

You can get some kind of multi-channel sound encoding MP4 stereo AAC as Pro logic II, thought.

And, yeah, AVI doesn't take h.264 ..

I have tried GOTsent, selected DTS for audio, and used the split option.  The 360 said the file is not supported.  Am I doing something wrong?

Ok I got the video to play, but there is no audio.  The original MKV file uses DTS audio, do I only need to select DTS in GOTsent?  Do I need to do anything else like mess with settings?

Hi,
I converted an episode of Heroes using Gotsent, everything worked fine. But I tried it with a 720p movie and after everything is complete, I get no file in the Output directory. Someone can tell me why? I tried with the safe sync checked and unchecked and also with the split > 4 gb option.
