I didn't notice if it was mentioned or not but XenonMKV I find works for 95% of the mkvs I throw at at. Out of about 100 conversions only 4-5 wouldn't convert due to incompatible AVC and would have needed re-encoding.

Try using XenonMKV instead, I find it is a better app overall. You can change which version of MP4box it uses from the GUI which may help in your situation, amongst a lot of other audio options. Worth a shot, it's free!

I'm uncertain as to how ANYONE could follow this tutorial, could not be more vague, no instructions on what to do on each step..

Step 1: There is NO demux option in MKVmerge, only "Start muxing" which if I am not mistaken, is the opposite of what I want to do.

I'm stuck at step 1.  Thanks.

PLEASE edit the first post of this tutorial to explain steps in a little more detail.

For anyone else that is having trouble following this tutorial, here is a much better one that actually explains each step, (What a concept.)

you're gonna take a high quality mkv with 5.1 audio and convert it to mp4 with 2 channel audio?  Talk about a waste of time, at least convert to highdef wmv with 5.1 audio

Yes, going to take a high quality mkv and convert it to high quality mp4 with 2.0 stereo, instead of 5.1. Not as many people can make use of 5.1 as you might think. Not to mention converting to mp4/2.0 takes around 10-20 times less than conerting to wmv/5.1, depending on your setup of course.

So basically,we can't get 5.1 audio using Gotsent?I used WME Assistant and it gave me 5.1 audio and a perfect picture but it took 1.5 hours to convert.

People, I need help. My mp4 won't play. I demuxed the mkv and muxed it into an mp4 container (2 channel aac audio and 1080p avc video) with yamb, but it won't play. It says unsupported format. I stream that mp4 with Tversity. Here are the specs of the file:

                VIDEO:  AVC 1920x800 , 11.8 Mbps    (8,77 GB)

                AUDIO:  AAC LC - 129 kbps - 2Ch  - 48.0 KHz     (99,2 MB )

If you think the problem is in the bitrate, I don't think so because my xbox plays a sample of that video which has a bitrate of 12.3 Mbps

I really need help and been trying to watch it for a few days now and it just won't work sad.gif . It' s very important

I'd imagine it's the file size. 4GB limit!

I tried it with Gotsent this time and it works (i just stopped it after few minutes of working to get a sample).
But when it was processing the whole video i got an error at 99%. It says mp4box needs to be closed...
I don't think that there's a size limit when streaming

That's an MP4Box bug that it crashes at 99%, though it shouldn't affect the output. Why not try XenonMKV? There is an option to choose from 3 different versions of MP4Box in that.

QUOTE(J^^ @ Sep 3 2007, 09:32 PM) *

Here is a quick and easy way to convert an MKV to an MP4 for the 360...
1. Using MKVmerge demux the video and audio from your MKV file.

wait a second -- there is no demux option.. are you saying that i should mux two different .mkv files, each with the video and audio separated? that doesn't sound right at all, so i'm assuming that's not what you meant since i've heard many cite a "h264" file and such..

i've tried the linux command line installation, the linux gui, and the windows gui, and nowhere in any menu, in any tab, in the --help option, or in the options is there anything indicating "demux".. i apologize for not exactly knowing what you're talking about, but four or five other people have had this exact same problem and you've simply ignored them. i'm about 80% sure you'll ignore me too, but what the fuck, it's worth a try, eh?

is it that i am installing the wrong version? were you using an older version of MKVmerge? all i want to know is where the option/button/command line option is to demux, that's all.

thanks in advance for any help!

you know, you really should edit your original post:

QUOTE(Mike4 @ Dec 13 2007, 05:16 AM) *
you didn't mention the fact that you have to actually demux the video first with MKVextract.  This may seem obvious, but for a beginner, this is a very crucial step.

isn't it pointless to confuse people? wasn't the point of a tutorial to help people? this guy already solved your mistake, and you couldn't even edit your post to help a few newbies out? jesus christ..

Can anyone tell me why I keep getting "MP4Box.exe has stopped working" towards the end of the conversion with GOTsent?
