1. Set up a videoprofile in expression encoder with Quality VBR set width and height to 0 to get same as input. Set fps same as source also.
Let's say you name it "profile1". Exit the encoder.
2. Set up a .prx file with 5.1 audio settings (Use Windows Media Encoder), use Quality VBR again. Save the file as "audio_5.1VBR" in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Expression\Encoder 2\Profiles\" directory. You may have to create "\profiles" directory. Exit WME.

How do I set up a video profile in expression encoder? uhh.gif

Thanks

Hi...those links on the first page are dead, does anyone have the .rar I'm suppose to get or at least the .avs file?

Just recently found this tutorial as well, everything is great... But the link to the TMPGEnc 720p template is dead.
I've searched absolutely everywhere, and i mean everywhere,
but every link is a direct rip of this site.
Can someone please give me a working link to the template.
I really want to start encoding my videos!

You can take the template settings from the pictures in the first post. Load in your video/audio files as described, then choose 'Windows Media Video' as the output type. Change the Video codec to 'Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile' and under the 'Audio' tab change the codec to 'Windows Media Audio 10 Professional. That's all the template is basically. The rest you have to do yourself manually, like match the source resolution, change the audio codec profile to '1-pass CBR - 384kbps, 48kHz, 5.1 channel 24-bit CBR', and adjust the video bitrate. It's all there in the first post.

Good luck!

How do you determine the video and audio bitrate for the WMV conversion based off of the bitrate from the mkv source?

If I use mediainfo.exe to examine the bitrate of an source MKV the following is presented (below)

I am assuming I would use the exact same bitrate presented in the MKV for the WMV or should it be higher or lower within the WMV.  Assuming I am not trying to target a particular physical media (DVD/CD).  My goal is to have an almost perfect copy of the source MKV.

I see two values listed in the mediainfo mkv dump video portion:

QUOTE
Bit rate                   : 2 593 Kbps
Nominal bit rate             : 2 725 Kbps

So would that mean I would set the average bitrate to 2725?  What about the Peak bitrate?

And for the Audio portion:
QUOTE
Bit rate                   : 448 Kbps

So would that mean I would set the audio format to 440kbps, 48khz, 5.1 channel 24 bit CBR?

There's always a slight loss of quality during any conversion, so you should give the output bitrate a little boost, say set it to 3000Kbps. The audio you can do what you want with, match it, lower it, whatever suits. Though it's pretty obvious if you only have a stereo setup then there isn't much point in selecting a 5.1 audio option.

Good luck!

Try muxing the h263 stream into a mp4 with yamb and rename the final file as .mov, as suggested many pages before.

The "mkv > h264 > yamb > mp4 > mov" method works for sure but i noticed a weird thing:

Load the original 23.976fps .mkv into tmpgenc is not equal to load the .mov + .ac3

There is a 2 frame difference between the original and the mov file, that means the audio should be corrected by 2*1000/23.976 = 83,416ms (83ms or 84ms)

Try it for yourself.

by virtue of 360's  limitation/crippling to mp4 H.264s:

1 - Less than 4GB
2 - 720p max
3 - less than 10mbit bitrate
4 - Level 4.1
5 - AAC LC 2 Channel

I wouldn't worry too much about dismissing this thread. wmv-hd is still the way to go, if one wants best PQ of HD on the 360. pop.gif

The 360 supports 1080p with h264.

You don't need anything other than tmpgen xpress, it's all I use and my hd-wmv files come out perfectly imo biggrin.gif

Try using the Expression Encoder method here - http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=628473
