Hi, I have been trying for a few months now.
So far I got to learn about Win XP Pro SP2 that windoze media PLAYER 11 is compatible with streaming *.wmv files. however, before the last update (which microsoft rushed out and screwed up really bad) you could encode your files to .wmv with VLC media and a batch command.
The result was a streamable file.
Now we have all been blessed with microsoft's 'baby' (from hell!) these *.wmv's became unviewable due to a messed up aspect ratio bug on the 360 itself. These old vids, if they play at all, will play in the wrong ratio.
So, basically, U can only stream *.jpg or *.mp3, *.wma. Pics and tunes. Thats all.
So that was me back to square 1. Im now trying out Win XP Media Centre Edition (MCE) 2005 with media extender and having nothing short of a ballache trying to find codecs that are compatible with MCE and streaming coz my 360 is being nothing short of a KNOBHEAD. (apologies for obsenities but i gotta punish microsoft).
I'm still learning myself but I hope this info clears up any hazy clouds more than solve any problems.
Good luck fellow scener.
