Cool news, but as previous poster said, I will wait with a purchase until I know if blueray or hddvd is the real winner.

AACS hacked to expose Volume ID on Xbox360 HD DVD Addon

If anything, this is going to accelerate the end of the "war" in Blu-Ray's favor.

If AACS revokes the keys, it will mean a recall of all 360 HD-DVD drives and a massive outcry and tons of negative publicity for the format. The Blu-Ray supporters actually have a majority vote at AACS and could force them to do just this.

If AACS doesn't revoke the keys, it will mean that the few neutral studios will be releasing movies simultaneously on a protected format (Blu-Ray) and an unprotected one (HD-DVD). How long do you think the people at the neutral studios who think DRM is a good idea will let that continue?

Every day the Blu-Ray format is protected while HD-DVD is wide open will accelerate the demise of HD-DVD. The only thing that would change this is Blu-Ray being similarly hacked ... and the PS3 is as-yet withstanding efforts to bust it open.

Blu-Ray is not a 'protected' format - you can gain content as easily as HD-DVD.  Both formats have been 'cracked'.    It's the 'drive' that's been compromised here and I doubt it'll be long before the PS3 suffers a similiar fate....

In short, if you want to copy either format - you can...
