If you didn't notice the HD-DVD problems before, then you probably weren't using it much at 1080p.  I noticed choppiness a lot, especially after having flipped through the menus and features a lot.  The downloaded update worked fine, and seems to have fixed most of the issues.

..."but contains title specific movie playback improvements"...

ERM, "title specific imprevements"??? Does that mean, each and every new disk you buy will require an update??? A pain via XBL (logging out every time, waiting, etc), but unacceptable via the non-XBL download-and-burn-to-disk method...

No, it merely means the update addresses some issues that specific titles were having. (Namely, slow menu performence).

If I didn't do the fall update yet, will this update include the past updates?

King Kong is a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, our 16:9 screens are something like 1.78:1....movies that are 1.85:1 should fill your screen, movies that are 2.35 or 2.40:1 will still have black bars since the picture is wider....this here might be a better explanation if you're curious.

The ease of updates should be seen as a great advantage over standalone HD-DVD players... not as weakness or flaw in the 360 model imo.

Does the hd-dvd update also update the dash?  I don't want to update to the spring update.
