Fullscreen Dvd Playback On 360?
« Reply #1 on: October 24, 2006, 06:52:00 AM »

I'm sorry, poor choice of wording. I'm not talking aspect ratios and full versus WS. I'm having a problem where the image, wide-screen or full, does not expand to fill the screen, when streamed from the xbox. I realize the difference in aspect ratios but a wide screen dvd should play taking up all of the "wide-aspect" reale state on the screen.

When I'm on the 360 playing games, or in the dashboard, the entire LCD is used. When I start playing a dvd, only a small area of the screen in the middle is utilized. Am I making any sense here?

Sounds like a problem with your lcd's internal scaler

Is your screen a 16:9 or is it a 16:10?  The monitor that i play on is a WS 16:10 screen and only some movies that support it actually fill up the whole screen.  Most movies only support 16:9 and there is still black bars on the top and bottom of the screen when watching movies.  Also keep in mind that mine is a computer screen and i'm using a VGA cable with the resolution set to 1280X1024 WS.

No no, he's saying that he puts his xbox in 1080i, and then turns off the scaling feature on the LCD so it displays 1:1.  But then when he puts in a DVD, it shows up in a small VGA (640x480, or the DVD res size) box instead of the physical area the 1080i setting took up on the screen.

The thing is that you said you had your xbox hooked up with the "HD Cables".  By that, I'm assuming you mean component cables.  Sorry, but the 360 only upscales when you use the VGA cables, NOT with the component cables.  Either you're going to have to pony up for the VGA cables, or use the 2405's internal scaler.
