Xbox 360 HD DVD playback: Maximum 1080i via component, 1080p VGA-only

God damn you MS. I want DVDs to upscale to 720p with component. Don't care if it can't do 1080i or p but at least gives up 720p.

Damn, I guess I'll have to stick to XBMC for my DVD upscaling.

Hey, I guess at least we get 720p and 1080i for HD-DVDs.

Since DVI is analogue you need to do an analogue to digital conversion using a vga to dvi adapter which arent cheap. I currently know of no adapter thats capable of a 1920x1080P vga input however.

DVI is primarily digital (Digital Visual Interface) although it does carry an analogue output as well.

DVI-D (digital only)
DVI-A (analog only)
DVI-I (digital & analog)
DVI-DL (dual link) - for higher resolutions

I don't know if it will work but if the DVI input on the back of the LCD TV lets an analog source through I don't see how a $20 DVI to VGA adaptor couldn't work the other way around (VGA-DVI-A). You would have to check if the LCD TV is DVI-A compatible.

Well my TV has....  DVI-D Input Jack (with HDCP)

So that means since the Xbox 360 has no DVI port I can't do VGA->DVI adapter and use it on my TV?

DVI is digital, not analog.
